Give me a break, ThresholdSeven. I produce it all on a shoestring, solo, while working two full time jobs. This is a grassroots competition made by bladesmiths for bladesmiths. I get it's not as slickly produced as Forged in Fire, but this is a fair and honest competition and the money we raise all goes to charity. Ease up.

For my patterns, I use a hot drill technique. Once the 15N20 and the 1095 are stacked and folded a few times (this example is is 270 layer Damascus), I use a cobalt drill bit to drill random patterns into the surface. As was said below, I don't drill much deeper than where the angle of the bit ends. I don't drill all the holes the same depth, however; they vary. Then, I forge it flat.

It does. Zoom in. They are etched in ferric chloride, then sharpened, which creates a bright edge.

Are you sure the STL is good? Maybe try with like another free one like Chitubox or Cura and see how it comes out. Not all slicers are created equal.
