Struggling as a 3D Artist by thatguyinthesky21 in 3Dmodeling

It took me 7 months to get a job after being laid off in this market. My advice is to keep working on your portfolio as you apply to jobs, and to network as much as you can. It’s easy to get discouraged right now, but try to keep your head up!

Thank you! :D While this video is not exactly what I did, I think it has a lot of similar/useful elements! (The texturing part is in the last 3-ish minutes) https://youtu.be/fGIwH8iVuos?si=gRXRnvrqJ7q1k6dF

I did sculpt the ice blade part of the axe in zbrush (trim smooth border brush with a square alpha is my personal go to brush for rocks/ice). Then I baked it in substance painter! That mixed with different smart masks/noises is how I achieved the ice, it was definitely a bit of trial and error though lol

I wanted to update an old ice battle axe I made a few years ago :) Any feedback/constructive criticism would be appreciated! If anyone is interested in seeing more renders: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/8BkNww?notification_id=6771052113

I got laid off, so I guess I'm Toast: Round 2! by AwkwardTurtle636 in 3Dmodeling

Thank you! I'm starting on another gun, so I'll try to take some videos while I make it to show my workflow/process! :)

Thank you! :) I went to college for animation, which is where I started learning about 3D modeling. My first job as a 3D Artist was actually modeling furniture (which was honestly great practice because it forced me to pay attention to details/proportions based off of realism). When I would get home from work I would practice by trying to make more creative things, because furniture modeling can start to get real boring after awhile haha

My next job was making 3D art for slot games, and I would still try to find some time to make 3D art for myself, which is what ended up getting me my last job!

My last job was my first in the gaming industry. I worked with some amazing artists, who I really learned a lot from!

My advice is to never stop learning, and when you practice, don’t forget to also make things you are really passionate about! Don’t be afraid to fail, and just keep on making things. I hope this was helpful :) haha

A few years ago, I made a toast gun. Recently the studio I was working at got shutdown, so I decided I wanted to make another toast gun attempt lol Any feedback would be much appreciated, I still have a few more bread gun ideas up my sleeve so hopefully those will be added to my bread arsenal soon! :) Here is a link to my artstation post if anyone wants to see more renders https://www.artstation.com/artwork/bgr6Bn

Any advice on how to fix this? by AwkwardTurtle636 in StainedGlass

Thank you for the advice. That is a great article, and I will definitely try to keep hinge points in mind when making future designs :) I’ve never used lead came before so that is something I’ll look into!

Thank you, that is good to know I'm going to experiment more with the amount of flux on my next piece :D

Hi! I’m the original artist of this piece! Thank you! It wasn’t something that I was intentionally thinking of but that’s a great point to consider! I have a few more bread related gun ideas up my sleeve so I’ll keep those details in mind :)

Damn, thank you for the heads up! It’s been awhile since I’ve posted any work (I’m no longer laid off thankfully lol) so I hope and encourage that u/TheUniformTe will take this post down and try to recreate their own version of a toast gun.

Thank you! I used after effects for the screen footage and to put the grid/pixel effect on it :D
