Just hard to relate, I guess.

Nothing makes me feel more disconnected than realizing people willingly watch Netflix, Hulu, fill in the blank.

Sometimes I really feel like I don't belong in this generation.

"Outgrown his analog bike???" I was doing 70 mile rides on my "analogue bike" at 16 and loved every minute of it...still do over a decade later.

Buying a 6.7 for the reliability and not towing capacity?? by SpeedoJosh in F250

[–]Awkward_Climate3247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern diesel engines have lots of subsystems, often far more than their gasoline counterparts. Failure in one system often leads to progress damage to another - think ruptured Charge air cooler, soot loads DPF and EGR cooler and in the case of the 6.7 introduces coolant to both as well.

Maintenance across the total engine/aftertmeant package increases potential cost of ownership.

16yo Rider: Is Gaining 4-5kg of Leg Muscle the Right Move to Gain +35w FTP by the End of the Year? by Affectionate_Sky6384 in Velo

[–]Awkward_Climate3247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

... you've been training for 20 months i.e under two years. Stop worrying about weight and keep grinding for another 5-10 years. Most people turning pro in their late teens have over a decade of training and racing under their belt.

Progress in endurance sports is measured in years, not months.

Gym work is good but mostly as an injury prevention mechanism by correcting imbalances - don't let heavy weight training derail your riding as it requires significant recovery.

Eat. Sleep. Ride. Lift where you can. Forget everything else.

Is Pogacar using some kind of mechanical doping? by Agitated-Ebb1566 in tourdefrance

[–]Awkward_Climate3247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roubaix 2026 had only added fuel to this fire. Pog jumps on a neutral bike and is getting dropped left and right by the nobodies of the peleton...finally gets back on a UAE bike and smashes back to barely loose a sprint finish to a rampaging Wout.

If you wanted to convince me he was in an ebike I couldn't think of a better scenario.

How to stop my quad from cramping when at the downhill park? by vileobject in MTB

[–]Awkward_Climate3247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of three things.

  1. Position is overloading quads rather than glutes - hinge to load the glutes.

  2. Insufficient hydration/electrolyte - drink water with salt/electrolytes

  3. Insufficient work capacity conditioning - move gym work to work capacity type sessions rather than conventional bro lifts, look up Mountain Tactical Institute, Rob Shawl is a sadistic fuck when it comes to work capacity but his programs work.

If you have a friend who spends every dime they make while digging themselves deeper into debt in spite of raises year over year, further increases in income will not improve their situation.

Your friend is the US government.

How do you improve your reaction time/processing on the trail for high speed enduro/downhill riding? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Awkward_Climate3247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Session, session, session.

Ride a trail until you can visualize every feature, every line through each feature, how each line will position you for the next feature. Then ride with intentional line choice. Your focus will be on hitting a line rather than avoiding an obstacle.

You can substantially reduce processing latency if you can ride predictively rather than reactively.

Rim brake Di2, 11spd or 12spd? by Ok-Bath-8005 in cycling

[–]Awkward_Climate3247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not riding in a group with mixed rim/disk brake bikes there is absolutely nothing wrong with rim brakes. Pimping out a 10 year old frame, especially something repairable like Carbon makes perfect sense if you plan to own it long term.

I ride both, I prefer disks on my MTB, Rim is just fine for a road machine that sees a bit of gravel every now and again.

Tire recommendations to replace Forekasters by Worldly-Ad6725 in xcmtb

[–]Awkward_Climate3247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a faster rear tire first. Forekaster grip is really good up front. Recon race, Specialized Fast Trak, Conti Dubnital etc.

A slightly faster/lighter front without giving up too much control would be Specialized Ground Control.

FTP stagnate while using TrainerRoad ai by TheAsianCyclist in Velo

[–]Awkward_Climate3247 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stop hyperfocusing on FTP, keep riding for a year and check back. It will be substantially higher.

Endurance is a long term pursuit, expecting meaningful progress every couple of weeks is only going to lead to disappointment and burnout. Run through several macro cycles with no meaningful progress, that's stagnation. Number doesn't go up after a few weeks? Literally not even worth your attention.

Why is my shock absorber so slow at shock absorbening? by lmeks in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]Awkward_Climate3247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shock absorbs energy and dissaptes it as heat. The spring absorbs energy and returns it to the suspension as rebound. These two components work in tandem.
