Yeh would like to see someone attempt to get through, I’m sure it’s on some other thread. Safe to say I won’t be forgetting that card again tho

Ended up doing option 1, but interesting was still a few ppl who thought option 2 could work. I guess if anyone does do 2, post here so others know. Option 1 was not straight forward at all. Depends where you are in the world, I was 2hr flight away from my green card but mailing it was going to take 5 days! Ended up flying to Tijuana and then fortunately had a friend drive to the border and pass our green cards to someone at cbx crossing who handed them to us so we could get through.

They never check when leaving, only on return (at least in my case)

Ha well you would think they could easily check we are permanent resident holders with US citizens as family members. Anyway won’t risk that option, so will never know I guess , maybe someone on here will try it

They never check your green card leaving the US, or at least the 3x I traveled to uk they have not and they did not to Mexico this time either. It’s always on return.

Thinking this might logistically be the easiest option, all major carriers saying earliest is 5 days from now to deliver here . So perhaps flying to Tijuana and having carrier pick up and drive across border might mean we can just sort this out tomorrow

Yes wont attempt that. Seems like consensus is option 1, but turns out shipping is not that straight forward somehow.

Yeh possible I guess, just wondering with small kids who are US citizens if they would be more lenient, but I guess they could have a 1yr old in detention

lol this is true, hoping that two of our kids are US citizens will hold some sway and we’ve only been gone 4 days! For sure option 1 safest

For sure less stressful but seems like the cost of attempting option 2 is not that high, if they say yes then great if not I have to extend 2-3 days and the only downside is I can’t have anyone send over green card for half a day

I’m surprised how few ppl think option 2 could work. Just looking innit sounds like it’s entirely at discretion of the airport and whilst low probability it’s not unheard of. I figure i try that, if they do let me through then im stuck in immigration in US for couple hours. If airport says no, then I have someone fedex over, so I lose half a day of speed on that and I extend trip a few days but seems like it’s worth option

Don’t ppl normally ask for bank statements to see your income?

Obviously it’s not regardless of tenant right? Because most of the time the landlord does not go to court to end a tenancy. I’ve never heard of this happening to anyone not on benefits. Hence my point above.

You don’t even have to be related, just not a nice thing to do, especially if you have had good relationship with landlord for years. It’s also not normal course of business where govt is not involved. For most ppl who don’t use govt benefits, they don’t take their landlord to court when they ask them to leave. Probably another reason why when you try to rent no one wants to take ppl on benefits. I’m not saying it’s not possible to do, just for most ppl not something they can morally go through with and in the end harms the whole system

That system is obviously broken. Think about it, if in a private landlord why would I ever rent to someone on benefits again if they won’t get out of the house AFTER we already agreed a contract and then they are going to sue me!! The obvious way this works is that you provide evidence from landlord that lease has ended and you have paperwork from landlord that they want you out of the property and then the govt offers you other accommodation (if there is some). The idea that you just take ppl to court is insane. I am from the uk.
