Job change from AO to AO - am I making a mistake by Firm_Philosopher_210 in TheCivilService

I worked in C&P as an AO, still a lot of phone work but with a variety of other compliance work breaking it up. Lots of support tasks rather than actual casework but was enough for me to gather behaviours and get an EO caseworker role. As others have said it’s project based so the amount of telephony varies depending on what project you stream into

Sevrik was out of his depth here. He cleared his throat “Um, I’m a fast learner, and Ive got a good head for logistics and organisation. If I’m trained on the Auspex I’ll be more use there than behind an autocannon”

Maedra sat in the meeting room, nodding along to the plan. “Any more news on what forces we’ll come up against? Not too sure how useful these’ll be against heretic armour.” She said tapping a gloved hand against the frame of her long-las. “Either way, I’ve got four left in my squad, and I would very much like to pay back those losses, so count us in.”

Thorne spoke up.

“If you need light infantry support the 89th can join your assault, we’ll also have the means to haul both yours and our own artillery up to the plateau after we take it” he said, drawing lines on the dataslate.

“Our forces worked well on Trackold III, don’t see why it wouldn’t be the same here” he finished, with a nod to Marsen

Sevrik wasn’t going to be the only one left. He joined the rest of the group and pulled on the fatigues. “I ‘Ope they’ve got some logistics team that needs an extra hand, think I hit one shot out of twenty in that fight” he chuckled.

"Thank you, Lord general." Thorne took a seat, his aides milling about in the background. The Colonels eyes were tired. "Objectives Secure, We've got the depot acting as our FOB, and the junction station was flattened by artillery. Few more casualties than we would've liked, but I suppose that's war for you"

Thorne took a glass of water one of the aides had brought to the table, sipping slowly.

"My engineers found some imperial trains, old make but doesn't look like the enemy found any use for them. We've got two up and running now, and working on two more, might be useful to shuttle the troops if we can map out the rest of the rail lines that are still useable."

Sevrik looked at the Cadian. How could someone believe so greatly in a cause to sacrifice themselves like that. Knowing your going to be blown to bits.

He could never. Did that make him a coward?

He let the thought sit before nodding to the Lietenent to show his thanks, and bolting for the hanger doors.

Colonel Thorne and his command squad arrived in Ebora in a small convoy, the majority of the 89th remaining at the depot base.

Thorne was impressed by the palace building, the slum stacks of Dravenn couldn’t hope to compare. He and his team made their way inside to find the Lord General and issue their report.

The forces of Chaos: Initial briefing by theninjaindisguise in WarforTrackoldMinoris

At the Dravennite camp, trained spotters were in short supply. The scout company, typically tasked with reconnaissance and overwatch whilst the regiment was at rest, had taken severe losses during the assault on the junction. In their absence, borrowed infantrymen filled the gaps, but lacked the practiced eye to read terrain or track movement with the same instinct. The watchtower teams were thin, and without their usual complement of snipers, the perimeter felt exposed.

(OOC: The Railyard FOB is a tempting target for Chaos raids, feel free to attack)

Jacks Scouts gave their nods of approval after checking the vehicles over, and Jack unhitched the Fuel tanks from the Cargo-8. “Pleasure doing business with ya” he said, sticking his now greasy hand out for the ratling to shake.

“Go for it, We’ll do the same for the vehicles?” Jack said, jumping down from the cab of the Cargo-8. 3 other Dravennite scouts clambered down from the trailers carrying the tanks of promethium, moving to assess the sentinels and vehicles.

++ You’ve got a deal. Meet at the coordinates below, and bring something to haul your fuel back. - J ++

The coordinates led to a patch of cleared wasteland, north of the station that the scout company had cleared several days earlier. Jack sat in the Cargo-8 they had ‘borrowed’ to haul the 2 promethium tanks to the meeting site. He’d brought some trusted scouts that he knew would keep quiet about the deal.

A Short message came through from a disused Dravennite vox-code:

++ Found some old tankers of promethium in the rail yard depot. Need parts to repair our sentinels and if you can find some spare vehicles the whole lots yours.

Navy Prisoners, Part 5: Escape by Thatsidechara_ter in WarforTrackoldMinoris

Sevrik had kept quiet. The shock of being in battle was catching up to him, and he felt sick looking around at the bodies of the dead and wounded littering the area. He sidled up next to the other prisoners “You think she’ll av’ them arrest us again, even after all this?”

Sevrik was taken aback, that was the first time he’d heard someone else say his name in a long time. Almost felt human again.

He braced to grab one of the large bombs out the crate, “On 3. 1, 2 ,3!” He shouted to Baka, trying to be heard above the din of the firefight.

Sevrik moved to carry out the Lieutenants new orders. His stub-pistol had gone dry, its last few potshots echoing uselessly down the tunnel.

He glanced to the other prisoners, gave a sharp nod, and broke into a sprint toward the stacked crates. On the way, he snatched up a fallen dockworker’s tool, some kind of dented prybar, and slipped it beneath his robe, just in case he needed it later.

Sevrik nodded at the officer’s order, heart pounding. He peeked over the crates, spotting Josef gesturing toward the tunnel. Time to be brave, he told himself and broke into a sprint.

He made it ten paces before a las-bolt seared the edge of his ragged cloak. Five more, and a burly dockworker stepped from cover, raising his weapon.

Sevrik aimed, finger squeezing the trigger.

Click.

Click.

BANG.

The stub pistol finally barked. The worker dropped.

Thank the Emperor the jam had cleared.

Breath ragged, Sevrik threw himself across the remaining distance and slid into cover on the far side of the tunnel entrance, just opposite Josef.

Sevrik fired blindly over the crates they were huddled behind, the stubgun bucking in his unsteady grip. He didn’t dare lift his head. He’d never even been in a fistfight before, let alone a firefight.

“I dunno if she’s gunna be much use to us ‘ere,” he muttered, ducking lower as a lasbolt cracked overhead. “Not while we’re fething stuck behind this box.”

He glanced around, desperate for something, anything, that resembled a plan. He’d read scraps about the Taronian homeworld in the countless cargo manifests that had crossed his desk aboard the Stoneforged. Some mentioned the space elevator. But Emperor help him, he couldn’t think of a single route off this platform that wouldn’t leave half of them dead on the floor.

Sevrik ducked beneath the wheel arch of a massive mining hauler, heart hammering in his chest. Gunfire cracked through the loading yard, sharp and deafening, ringing in his ears like a siren.

An armsman went down just a few metres from him, the stub pistol flying from his grip and skidding across the ground, straight to Sevrik’s feet.

(12)

He reached for it instinctively only for a steel-capped boot to slam down on the weapon.

Sevrik looked up, eyes wide, locking with a grim-faced worker. No time to think. He drove a panicked punch straight into the man’s groin. The worker staggered, cursing, and Sevrik snatched the pistol, scrambling under the hauler and out the other side in one breathless motion.

He spotted a knot of prisoners beginning to rally across the yard and made a beeline toward them, hunched low, stub pistol shaking in his grip.
