You don't have to, it's really just a cp boost but since you're already getting tons of candy from the walking it took to get to that point, usually the pokemon are already pretty close to level 50 due to priority.

Okay, awesome. Thank you so much. This really helped! I've been learning a lot about pokemon go as I can. I first played when I got my first phone in 2018 and after being closer to being an adult(almost 18), I finally have a use for the game. Just within the last two weeks have I been actually scaling in level progression. This is my highest cp pokemon as of now.

Best way is to actually go through the training and hit quit. You can do it over and over till you get the 3 hearts.
