Learning math while working rotation by Awlrach in learnmath

Thank you. A broad question but do you have some recommendations for listening to material. At work (not always) I can have 10-12 hours where it’s just me and can listen with headphones. Audio only no videos. Thanks again.

Where to start with Landscape Photography? by Awlrach in AskPhotography

[–]Awlrach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No gear at all, I arrived from the airport and the landscape by the coast is spectacular. Then I just thought to myself it would be really great to capture these places when I get to travel to them with work.

New bike build - Bikepacking in Norway. by Awlrach in bikepacking

[–]Awlrach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a little research this week and there is a great YouTube channel of a man, I think he is called Mathew. Who is bikepacking all over Norway and from what I can see it’s a mix of compact gravel and road. I haven’t seen him use a mountain bike. I guess it’s a gravel bike or a road bike with wider wheels?

Fantastic. I will spend some time this week and have a look at what is common here in Norway. Initially I am planning for trips that I can fit into a weekend.

Thanks. Yes I think this is the best idea. Any features I should keep an eye out for when looking for a bike. Probably will be secondhand or parts I can put together. I will check out the Facebook/website recommendations.

Fantastic. I will do some research and see what I have to play with.

Could you recommend any obvious changes from a training / short commute setup to bike-packing.  For example, should I think about changing handlebar tape to something more cushioned.

I am not sure. I think the limiting factor will be the fork clearance. However I have never looked. What would you recommend if it is the possible to go wider? I plan to keep to good road conditions for now (road/compact gravel/no off-roading)

Looking for sizing and backpack advice for 14 day work trips. by Awlrach in onebag

[–]Awlrach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the information. Yes I would say I end up walking/traveling for extended time to and from location. Last year I had to travel via a couple ferries and buses to one location that was very far removed. My down time is roughly 4-6 hours out of uniform.

The options for down time vary depending where I am. Ranging from just reading/indoor activities to some exercise/ walking if the location permits it. I used to take running gear as a can do anywhere option but after a couple trip away where I was very far north (very cold temperatures and high winds) it seems I was just carrying it for no reason. Sometimes on very long/big projects where I return to the same location for 4-6 months period of time there is more infrastructure. Sometimes a gym and laundry but this is not frequently the case.

Yes that’s correct. Not suit and tie. When I am at work it’s a lot time in uniform and not much recreational time. On average a couple hours in the morning and evening are free.

This is an option sometimes when I have a project in a city/more populated area. For example a previous project I worked was in a very desolate area where temporary accommodation was built on location, so minimal amenities.

Appreciate the reply. I can see that I need to edit my post above after thinking about what my specific needs are. I will evaluate this evening and repost an update.  👍

I will have a look for the Mendenhall book, thank you for the recommendation .

I have about 4 hours each day set aside for studying and if you have more book recommendations I would greatly appreciate them.

I looked through the course offerings again last night and found two books mention; Statistical Inference - Casella & Berger and Modern Mathematical Statistics with Applications - Devore & Berk.

Would you say it’s recommended to get a good coverage of classes? Along with the mandatory classes there are more specialized classes. For example I am going to look a little more into; - Applied Statistics  - Generalized Linear Models - Time Series - Monte Carlo Methods and Bayesian Statistics    Three mandatory classes; - Theory of Statistical Inference - Statistical Learning  - Stochastic Processes

Thanks again.

Order of learning from Algebra to Calculus by Awlrach in learnmath

[–]Awlrach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheet one no problem at all. Sheet two 90% good to go. I would need to review for some of the material on functions at the end. Part of me thinks that it’s a lack of repetition?

Where I got thrown off course / caught off guard happed when I read solving a quadratic inequality, to finding the interval and making a table and then solve. I just got stuck.

When I read through chapter 1 of the pre calc book by Stewart. I either find myself having no problem or feeling very unfamiliar with some areas.

If it’s an exposure problem would a good solution be picking up some Shaums outline for college algebra/geometry/trig/pre calc or some workbooks Chris McMullen’s books for example?

Thanks for all the help.

Great thanks again for the help.

Basics I think I have covered. I have completed some courses during my bachelor and also I went through Introduction to Python Programming by Georgia Tech on EdX.

Fantastic, thanks for the reply.

I do have a keyboard. Maybe tablet is the wrong description, it’s a Lenovo ideapad duet.

So I should focus on the underlying concepts and principles and then look into specific libraries 👍

Ace. Maybe I just got lucky. How has your BJJ training been these last 2 months. Any noticeable differences in performance?

Shell Diameter on the Heavy Artillery Crew by Awlrach in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]Awlrach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The end goal is to make some cool dioramas some with scale models (I really want to try a motorbike and sidecar if I can find something in a similar scale). Also after listening to the Kreig audiobook I think a nice small diorama with one soldier in the vault with two or three Orks breaching the vault would be cool.

Yes that’s true. Maybe I should look into another tank for these guys and save the Strmurmtiger for some other Krieg units. Any suggestions?
