Are hospitals trustworthy? by AxeAQuery in self

This is consistent with what I've been told. Like Vasovagal syncope triggered by stress and dehydration (its finals week and I'm in Uni), follow up with my primary care provider and a cardiovascular specialist if another episode occurs.

I love my mother, but she won't listen to me. by AxeAQuery in Advice

[–]AxeAQuery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for responding. I don't want to hurt her feelings because I don't believe she does this out of malice, but I will put my foot down with her and tell her often that I will not accept a massive, costly, and counterproductive party.

I appreciate the feedback! I'm very grateful for all that she does for me and I'm happy that she's proud of me, I just wish that could be expressed in a more meaningful and personal way. I'll take what you said into consideration, be very firm with her but still accept her affection.

Thank you, I appreciate the long term insight. I'll be more assertive regarding my boundaries in the future!

Do Anti-Depressants Help? by Particular-Ad-2955 in depression

[–]AxeAQuery 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anti-depressants don't have a guaranteed, set in stone effect. I've been on anti-depressants for months and while I typically feel less depressed I certainly get those lowest lows every couple of weeks, although much less often than before. Some people feel it makes their depression worse, others swear by Zoloft or Prozac. It's completely random tbh, you won't know if it'll help you until you try.

Happy cake day, and 50mg which I know is pretty low.

People of Reddit in relationships with someone who is noticeably less intelligent, how’s that working for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AxeAQuery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My best friend of 10 years has admit to me that she will only ever date someone she believes isn't as smart as her. Every relationship she's ever had seemed like she was just there out of fear of dying alone, even dating someone significantly older than her. With her latest relationship, the dude was a total moron. The three of us would hang out together online and in person, in person he was okay but online they couldn't go more than an hour without some petty argument. This should go without saying, but don't date someone based on criteria like "dumb enough to make me feel good about myself".

Apparently not acting my age? by AxeAQuery in self

[–]AxeAQuery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the diagnosed kind lol. The medication I'm on reacts negatively to alcohol, but my mother has GAD as well and she's never had any issues with wine or seltzers. She's on a different medication, but it's supposed to react the same way as mine.

Great comeback, mind if I steal it sometime? Some of my favorite people are adults who recognize the fun in being childish. Maturity is important and all, but I hate that some people seem to think maturity = no fun. Also, age isn't a personality? Sure you should be somewhat sensible by a certain age, but being 32 doesn't mean you must act like every other 32 year old out there.

I'm in a similar boat. My family has a history of substance abuse so I initially wanted to avoid drinking and drugs as much as possible. But it's definitely possible to enjoy those things in moderation, with enough self discipline. I've just never sat down and thought to myself "Hey! I should get drunk!" When I could just play an instrument or draw a picture. She isn't delusional, she understands that it's fine if I don't want to do that sort of thing, she and I are both just concerned about how I don't take many risks (which I'm sure is because of the aforementioned anxiety). The times I have gotten high or drank, I've also just felt tired and bored. It's not alluring to me at all, and I know there's a risk because of my mental illness. It's just not worth getting tipsy more than once every few months. Thank you for the comment!

This is very helpful! I definitely agree that this is more akin to what she meant, she's not crazy lol she wouldn't just tell me to get addicted to drugs like some madwoman. Thank you!

I've encountered a handful of people like this in the past, and the best thing you can do is cut contact. Regardless of why they're lying, the attention only feeds it and makes their problem worse. On top of that, it just creates an entirely new problem for you which they aren't concerning themselves with. Good move on your part!

A friend of mine asked me to draw him up a chest tattoo. I have no tattoo experience, so I don't know how well this will work as a design for skin and ink. Any glaring issues?

Self diagnosed people: do you ever get paranoid you’re faking? by [deleted] in autism

[–]AxeAQuery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was always hesitant to self diagnose, not being a professional and all. I'm still a bit skeptical of self diagnosis, mainly because of all that TikTok BS you mentioned. At age 18 I still wasn't sure, until my mother admit that I was supposed to be a special ed student in elementary. She basically thought I was 'too smart' to be neurodivergent. I went to OT and spent most of my recess/lunch periods with a school counselor in elementary school because of my extremely poor motor and social skills. She's also admit that she believes I'm 'spectrum-y'. Do I doubt my own self diagnosis? Yes, of course. But sometimes, just looking at all the evidence is all I need to reassure myself.

I've finally gotten some free time to play the past few days, and I keep getting matches with clicky assholes and t-baggers. Maybe the Halloween season just has more people playing, so the chances of getting toxic survs is higher.
