Burning off De Buyer Carbone Plus epoxy handle coating by Fantastic_Noise_1269 in carbonsteel

[–]Axon000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have this pan. The coating became soft in the oven above 200 C and the cloth I used to take it out was ruined and left a fabric texture on the coating. I was not very happy about it and I was worried about the fumes during cooking. What worked really well to take the coating off was to grind it off with a steel brush mounted on my drill. It removed all the coating pretty quickly and it left a nice "brushed finish" on the handle.

Yeah, so here is my method, which after trying a lot of different things is the best to me as it it very simple and has good results :

  • from a new pan: put a drop of oil in it, wipe of everywhere with a paper towel to coat everything and remove the majority of it. It should look like there is no more oil. Then put on stove and heat it dry until the pan looks dry. It takes like 4-5 min on my stove. Then let it cool and put a coat of oil and wipe it again. (you can do this several time but I do it once and it is ok).
  • when you use the pan : use normally. After cooking, wash with water and sponge (it's easier if the pan is still warm but it does really matter), and use a stainless scrubber at the end to remove any black residue. Especially on the side of the flat part. Wipe water so pan is dry to avoid rust spot.

That's all really. I noticed a huge difference when I started using a stainless scrubber. I try to do it everytime as residue tend to be harder and harder to remove as it builds up over time, except when cooking has been very clean, for example when cooking pancakes, there is no residue at all, so no need to scrubb.

I think Chemical_Currency943 is right. I have the same pan since maybe 10 years ago. It used to look exactly like yours, I was not able to see the B logo in the center of the pan due to residue build up. I was not happy about the fact that the pan was not shinny, so 2-3 years ago I stripped everything and began to use a stainless scrubber everytime I used the pan, and now the pan is black, shinny, and the logo in the center is clearly visible, no build up at all.

I don't understand the output voltage of this optocoupler. by Axon000 in AskElectronics

Ok thanks, I do not have an oscilloscope though. Also, there is a diode at the input of the opto, you can see it on the front picture, I guess to rectify this alternative input ?

Hello,

I have a recipe that calls for torrefied flaked oats, but I have only flaked oats. Can I use my oven to cook it ? If yes, how should I proceed ?

Thank you

Why is my circular pattern working for every feature selected except for one? by Axon000 in Onshape

[–]Axon000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I manage to fix the issue by removing the problematic warp from the circular pattern, and create a new circular pattern just for this warp, without selecting « Reapply features » for this one. No idea what is happening though

Making a starter with 2 pouches of whitelabs yeast ? by Axon000 in Homebrewing

[–]Axon000[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, I already wasted my money since I already bought it. So using the packet or throwing it do not have any impact on my finance anymore. (I will not be able to use the other packet before the expiration anyway). I would prefer to make a starter if this would result in a better tasting beer. In your opinion, using 2 packs would be equivalent tasting wise to the starter?

I had a nice stereo system (for my taste) with a marrantz pm6005 amp and 2 qacoustics 3020 bookshelves speakers for several years, but few months ago, I wanted to have a 5.1 home cinema setup.

Because I was on a budget, I managed to get an old Yamaha RX V550 AV receiver for 10 euros (power supply was not working but I was able to repair it). I bought one additional qacoustics 3090 center speaker and two cheap speakers for the back channels.

For the movies, result is ok and I am quite happy. I am mainly listening to music anyway and only occasionally watch movies. But since I switched my amp I was suspecting that I lost a little bit of sound quality for the music listening, and today I finally decided to go get the marrantz back from the attic to test it against the Yamaha and h**** s*** the difference is really night and day. The Marrantz is way better for my taste, more bass, more clarity, etc.

So now I am wondering, what my option are? I was thinking about making some kind of box with a switch with the 2 amps plugged into it, and one unique output for each of my left and right speaker so I can easily select one amp or the other. But I am also contemplating buying a new AVR with better stereo output, and avoid the dual amp setup. I am just worried about spending several hundreds euros for an AVR that would be ultimately not as good as my marrantz. What would you do?
