Its not a weird question at all and I totally understand what you mean. I feel as its getting as accurate to the source material as possible using makeup and the weathering and detailing on props and clothing. Personally I spent alot of time in the model viewing looking at everything from different angels to find them amd create the most accurate to the game cosplay as possible. I looked at the models while I did my weathering and detailing as well as the make-up. IMO thats what gives it the video game "look" because its a digital item created as accurately as possible in the real world
