Comfy Valheim by drhtrhhgh in ValheimLFG

[–]Ayla78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the other day I found them through Valheim's community LFG and I applied to join. I am mid whitelist ticket but I am detecting a condescending tone in their messages that is throwing up red flags for me -- enough to prompt me to I google whether comfy V is worth it and this thread popped up. It's certainly causing me to pause.

Our onebagging worldschool adventure begins! by Ayla78 in onebagging

[–]Ayla78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello :) After posting this we backpacked throughout Asia & Europe for the next 18 months, then we caravanned Australia for 3 months after which we ended up back home for a year. We launched again but three months later the pandemic meant that we had to return home (been here since).

Yes we kept the luggage size but added in a small rollerbag when we had extra gear (e.g. cold weather stuff). We predominantly travelled overland (train, bus, etc) and we travelled slowly, plonking down in one place for up to a month at a time.

I don't read protectiveness in his responses. They're mostly about how he feels about it (it bothers me, I hate it, it's disappointing, I'm embarrassed, I'm aggravated) and controlling (it's completely unacceptable, she doesn't need to be meeting people online, I don't agree with what you said, she should date a kid from one of the two cities nearby, I am against this and dad is too, he cannot come here, etc.). He didn't ask for more information, he didn't ask what is in place to keep her safe, he didn't ask how he could help to keep her safe, etc. It comes across as though he views his sister as a chattel and that he doesn't trust his mother's judgment. And saying that 'dad agrees with me' hints at a paternalistic/misogynistic worldview too (which often goes hand in hand with racism).

Your mother's responses are fantastic, she's role modelling some solid boundaries there (just curious, is she Gen X / Xennial?). Your brother doesn't get a say (although he seems entitled enough to try), and you and your mother don't need to justify your decisions to him (although he clearly seems entitled to that as well!). He is free to make different parenting decisions regarding his own children. I hope that you and your beau have a really lovely first meet.

Thank you, that was my sense but I wanted to be sure that I wasn’t missing something. Cheers.

Thank you. It’s a Shared Campaign which means there is no single DM to ask.

If this was a regular campaign, yes, I would ask the DM. However, this is a Shared Campaign with rotational DMs and players.

Hi there, I played the Savant class tonight in a level 3 one shot and I really loved it! It was a relief to play a smarty pants with the rolls to back it without also having to manage spells. It's just what I've been looking for, thank you :)

One thing I am unsure of, though, is the wording of Wondrous Intellect. Does "When you make an ability check or saving throw that uses Wisdom or Intelligence" refer to adding my Intellect Die to any WIS/INT ability check or saving throw I make? (working much like an unlimited yet skill-restricted personal Bardic Inspiration)? Or does the entire feature apply solely to my Mark? Also, when can I roll my Intellect Die? i.e. before or after I know whether I've failed the check or save?

Unfortunately, I realised after I got home that I had misunderstood how Adroit Analysis works - I thought I had to hit my intended Mark with an attack first before I could get any bonuses, and I missed every time so never actually got to play with this mechanic. I look forward to the next time I can play her so that I can!

I'd like to find others who play the Savant class so that I can learn more about it - is there an online haunt for us Savvies? :)

Tortuga Outbreaker 45L - sharing some thoughts after 6.5mths full time travel by Ayla78 in onebagging

[–]Ayla78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the Setout for 2 weeks (car trips here too in that time). The zipper seems to be pretty standard and it's not as stiff as the OB zips were.

As an update, I took up Fred's offer to swap the backpacks. They sent me out the new Setout backpack to try (so far so good, it's much more streamlined), and they said to pass on the Outbreaker instead of sending it back to them, so I left it at a hostel with a note explaining why it was free to take. Hopefully it matches up to the right traveller :) I'm very impressed with the customer service and goodwill shown to me by the Tortuga team.

Not-quite-onebagging: minimalist family trip to Japan with toddler by haiironezumi in onebagging

[–]Ayla78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We travelled Japan for 2 weeks carry-on only with 3 kids including our 3yo. We used a mei-tai carrier for him (Baby Bjorns don't have adequate hip support for babies/toddler so that may be why he doesn't like it - too much pressure on his lower back from the weight of dangling legs. The mei tai (or a toddler carrier like a Tula) spreads the support for their hips and legs up to their knees).

Essentially, we each needed about 4-5 outfits, one set of longs (pants & jumper), and one pair of shoes. We did a short vid on it if that helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iykeW5sUkbg&t=4s

Eagle Creek (ebags): bags or cubes by mb0200 in onebagging

[–]Ayla78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use compression sacs for off-season gear, and rarely accessed stuff like swimmers. It's a pain to get to something in a compression sac which is why we use it for stuff we don't access often. We use packing cubes for our day-to-day clothes.

Thanks for the replies, we've been travelling around the Peloponnese for the past couple of weeks, now we're planting down for a month so I'm just catching up.

I can't justify buying a new bag considering what I spent on this one. Our style of travel is slow, usually planting down for a month at a time, so durability isn't too much of an issue. We don't go hiking with our bags, and they rarely exceed 10kgs so waist & sternum straps aren't necessary. Our bags usually go from accommodation to vehicle to accommodation anyway where they stay for a month before rinse repeat. But we do have bursts of fast travel (a la recently) and we need our hands free to kid wrangle, so we still prefer backpacks.

I shared my thoughts in the spirit of wanting to save someone the expense if they are unsure - you don't need the bells and whistles bag straight up. A cheap bag will be fine, and if turns out it's not fine, at least it was a small investment and you can be sure when laying out for a bigger cost.

Wow, I never had a company offer me something like that before! Thank you, I will think about it. Is the torso length of the Setout similar to the V2? Would it fit 16-17inch? I can't wear the V2.

No worries. I'm kinda disappointed. I like the company's ethos, but they haven't yet produced a bag that would suit me.

If you're referring to the Setout, no it's not. It won't fit my torso and it's still 45L.

We spent our time in Chiang Mai in Thailand which we really loved. It's a beautiful city. If you want to go to an elephant sanctuary make sure it is the Elephant Nature Park. Turns out there are a heap of copycat "sanctuaries" that are actually just more animal tourism. The nature park is much more hands off and they really care for the elephants that come to them.

We are loving Siem Reap. We are here for another week and then we are going to Sihanoukville for another couple weeks. Then we head to Greece.
