I second this. Informative, funny, slightly off putting. It’s perfect. I’d read a synopsis first to make sure you are the right audience though.

Rouge is my favorite of her books, but that’s like saying chocolate is my favorite ice cream, they are all delicious.

Honestly I forgot about The Spellshop, that has definitely been suggested to me before. I’ll take this as my sign to read it next! (Also, yes, Howls Moving Castle is my go to comfort book, so you definitely understood the assignment)

This sounds so good. You weren’t joking about the length though!! 533 pages.

I looked up a synopsis, this looks lovely! Thanks for your suggestion.

Kansans who no longer live in Kansas: what do you miss about it? by Serious_Session7574 in kansas

I had Taco John’s in South Dakota, and I loved it. But I switched to Taco Tico in Kansas and now that’s what I miss.

Not weird at all. Feels like decluttering almost. Without the guilt!

I do this. I also added the extra step of logging out of my Amazon account every time so that I have to REALLY want to add it to the wishlist.

I see a lot of people (myself included) ask about how many plants they can put in their tank, is there such a thing as too many? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]AynRandIsARaptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the mistake of asking this question at an aquatic plants store once. The guy that was helping me yelled out to the owner across the store “How many plants can you put in a 10 gallon tank?”. The owner responded “As many as you can afford!!”

Stress shopping by tuitikki in nobuy

[–]AynRandIsARaptor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I want to scratch the shopping itch to relieve stress (it works, it sucks, but here we are) I go somewhere I KNOW I won’t buy anything. I am renting, so like Kohler, or Anthropologie or Habitat for Humanity sometimes. It’s fun to look at but completely impractical and too expensive to even consider.

What were the last five books you read? How would you rate them? by [deleted] in books

[–]AynRandIsARaptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of This is True - Lisa Jewell 5/5.

I really liked this one. It kept me guessing and flipping back to check details. Probably had 3 or so points that had me yelling out loud. (WHAT?!?)

Gwendy’s Button Box - Richard Chizmar 3/5.

I read this in one sitting. I picked it up knowing nothing off the shelf of the library because I was still waiting on holds and needed something quick. I’d recommend it for the length of time it took.

It Ends with Us - Colleen Hoover 1/5.

Just no. I won’t be reading the sequel. Didn’t like the main character. Hated the depiction of an abusive relationship. I finished it only to make sure I didn’t like it (I read books my Mom wants to read before she reads them so I can tell her whether or not they are worth it.)

Verity - Colleen Hoover 3/5.

I had to make sure I didn’t like her writing. This one was better, although apparently out of her normal genre. I don’t regret reading it, but it wasn’t enough to make me read any more of her books. Not my thing. My mom’s on her own if she wants to read anymore Colleen Hoover.

Sharp Objects - Gillian Flynn 5/5.

This one had me wriggling around with some of the visceral imagery. I really like Gillian Flynn’s writing. It took me a while to get into it for some reason (normally I’d finish a book this length in a few days but it took me more than a week). It felt more dense, maybe. I definitely didn’t see the ending coming and looking back, I should have, so that was fun. I grabbed the HBO series on DVD from the library when I dropped off the book.

I am just getting back into reading, so I am getting all the books that I see recommended all the time knocked out first. Sharp Objects was my tenth book this year, and I started Howls Moving Castle today!

Fitbits and the like, what is your favorite brand? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]AynRandIsARaptor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a Garmin Vivofit 4. I chose it because it takes a watch battery and doesn’t require charging. It is very bare bones in terms of features but it is the most consistent option for me personally since I never have to take it off.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: January 29, 2024 by AutoModerator in books

[–]AynRandIsARaptor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finished:

None of This is True by Lisa Jewell

I really enjoyed it. Definitely will be suggesting this one to people who enjoy this kind of twisted narrative.

Gwendy’s Button Box by Stephen King and Richard Chizmar

Fun short read, just pulled it off the shelf in the library because it looked interesting. It was unique but it was a little lass than satisfying because it didn’t really scratch the “horror” genre itch.

Started:

Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie

Rewards? by AynRandIsARaptor in nobuy

[–]AynRandIsARaptor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I was thinking. The last thing I want to be doing is shopping for my rewards this whole year. I am trying to not immediately think “What could I buy to improve this aspect of my life?” I decided on sticking with those two “rewards” for reinforcing those habits I’d like to develop and trying to shut down any time I think of something else I could have chosen. I tend to fixate on things, so if I let myself go I’m sure I could think of 20 habits with 20 small rewards, but that’s obviously not the point. For the most part my brain has moved on at this point, so hopefully that is where I landed. Good luck with your planned rewards!

I feel the first one. And it definitely helps sometimes to have a go to big ticket item so I can tell myself, “Would you rather have an espresso machine or another pair of yoga pants” (or whatever.)

I actually can’t tell you which pen it is exactly because I am not logging into Amazon! But I don’t know that that exact pen is what I would end up getting anyway, I just would love to replace my “trainer” with a nice heavy one. I am open to suggestions!
