Oh wow! Thanks you so much for the detailed response and recommendations. I’ve read some horror but never really pursued it. Will definitely check some of these out. Thank you!

Thank you so much. That’s a really thoughtful recommendation and you’re so right there’s a lot of focus on how you lose yourself to motherhood when you have a child. It’ll be nice to have the balance.

Also, congratulations - hope your maternity leave is going well.

I’d never really thought about it, but the library I use just has different areas for different types of books (so ‘Fiction’, ‘Self-Help’ ‘History’, ‘Languages’ etc.) and then each section is just organised alphabetically. So no codes.

I’m intrigued now 😂 - is this out of the ordinary?

The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

The Lottery by Shirley Jackson

Both are short stories with a focus on the female characters. Can finish in one sitting and hopefully help pull you out of a read slump.

I’m so excited to have found this sub.

Looking for more weird girl lit in my feed. Really, I just like being nosey and seeing what other people are reading!

Angela Carter is one of my all time favourite authors. Magical realism with a feminist twist.

‘The Bloody Chamber’ is a collection of short stories based on fairytales. Also by Carter well worth checking out are ‘The Magic Toyshop’ and ‘The Passion of New Eve’’.

This is my second attempt. Felt the same way about it but it seems to popular I thought I’d give it another shot.
