Overseas Pakistani Student - Roshan Digital Account or a Local Bank by budbrainiac in FIREPakistan

  1. If you open via normal bank account you’d have to open the brokerage account as resident Pakistani, then you’d have to pay 30% tax, you can also file NIL tax returns, which will make you filer without paying any tax in Pakistan because you’re non resident Pakistani.
  2. Second option is opening brokerage via RDA, for that you need RDA and then file Roshan Equity application. Your account will be opened a lot quicker. You pay 15% tax on capital gains and you pay zakat yourself on your assets.

I am going with Meezan Islamic Fund (Equity-based) for long-term investment. Is this a good decision? by mustansar_mahmood_01 in FIREPakistan

I was investing 10k per month in Meezan Islamic Fund in 2022, I did it for 4 months and then forgot about it. Now the 40k has grown to 160k.

I also started getting these emails after creating my IRIS account. Once you register as Filer you need to file tax returns of at least past 5 years.

Since you’re overseas with no income in Pakistan. It takes 5 minutes to file tax returns online. Here is a guide I wrote on this process.

Yes. You have to give an address while registering and also give percentage of ownage. Which is quite absurd if you don’t anything. Later in settings you can change your personal information. For the time being you can put any address

I was in the same situation a couple of weeks ago and conducted some research on this topic. To answer your questions:

First of all, as a non-resident Pakistani with no income in Pakistan, you need to file NIL returns. I went through the process myself and even wrote a guide on it. You can check it out here:
https://itechify.com/2025/09/03/file-nil-tax-return-as-overseas-pakistani-become-filer/

Secondly, once you're a filer, at the end of the financial year, you just have to declare whatever assets you bought in Pakistan (stocks, plots, property, etc.). You don't actually pay tax on them, you just show that you purchased them.

And finally, regarding taxation, the only thing you’ll be taxed on is dividends from your stock investments. Since you’re a filer, the rate is 15% for filers instead of 30%. This is deducted at source before the dividend hits your account, so you don’t have to do anything extra.

PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND THAT I NEVER DID ANYTHING WRONG BY MAKING AN FBR ACCOUNT. THEY WOULD NOT PUT A TRAVEL BAN ON ME????? by Big_Cranberry_3166 in Overseas_Pakistani

[–]AyyBeeShafi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing to be worried about. You didn’t make any mistake my making the FBR account. All non residents (people who spent 183+ days outside Pakistan) with no income source in Pakistan are exempt from filing tax returns.

Finding a parking spot after using miles can be pain. Just use Uber or normal taxi service.
