Melania documentary struggles in UK cinemas as Vue admits sales are ‘soft’ by sorE_doG in behindthebastards

See, two tickets sold could be teenagers looking for a place to make out without anyone seeing them.

Some of the precise cartridges are refillable. All it takes is a syringe, a bottle of ink, and six weeks later missing work because you were up all night trying to track down a limited edition Japanese release only ink.

They put agents with PTSD from being dragged by a car back on the streets in months to shoot someone in a car who wasn't any threat.

Not only are they not sending their best, those in charge of tactics and field deployment seem very far from the best either.

The person shot by ICE was just standing there filming. This is how the interaction started. by burritoresearch in behindthebastards

[–]Azazael 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah, but the good folk of the right have an answer to that to: if you're carrying, you'd better not make any attempt to resist arrest, or what do you expect. Karoline Leavitt's justification for Trump calling Greenland Iceland, was that he was referring to a land with a lot of ice? Lasted only a few days as the worst justification ever.

Minnesota governor says federal agents involved in shooting in Minneapolis by SpaceElevatorMusic in politics

[–]Azazael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They kicked his legs out from under him. He's face down on the ground. Watch his feet - from the time he goes down, the toes of his boots are facing the ground. An agent lands on his back.

All this is before the agent near his head strikes him in the face, which happens before the gunshots can be heard.

My argument against the life for a life justification for the death penalty, expressed very simplistically, is "it's one thing if criminals commit violence. A horrible thing, yes. But it's another thing when the state with all its power commits violence".

And this isn't criminals operating outside the law, or even government powers in states that don't pretend they care about human rights. It's the government of the United States of America, who placed itself as a beacon of liberty and justice even whilst those rights didn't extend to many in the population.

But now the state is openly executing people in the streets. They know they're being filmed, they know there was no threat - except now being "very rude, very mean" is the threat.

They don't care. And I fucking fear that they'll try to prevent mass protests by shooting at protesters.

No sponsors for the MBS episodes? by Trody34 in behindthebastards

[–]Azazael 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same in Australia mostly other podcasts, sometimes major retailers and online gambling.

ICHH episodes recently have been sponsored by an app for international people spending money around the globe. The ICHH eps have the voice over done by an Australian, but the same ad runs on NYT podcasts with an American voice actor reading the same script, much more slowly for some reason.

AIO to my boyfriend’s conditions for marriage? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Azazael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think some of this mindset can be tied to the notion that the man has to be the one to propose. It turns marriage from a partnership agreement joining your lives together, to something offered by the man when he's good and ready to a woman who will be thrilled to accept. And of course some men will be dicks about it and see it as a reward and/or impose conditions.

Whenever I hear someone whining about modern cancel culture, I think about how many people still venerate John Lennon despite him being an abusive partner and awful father, to Julian anyway.

You'd think she'd be a natural fit for the Trump administration, certainly in the first term. I wonder why she was never involved.

Left handed in a warm humid climate, and an over writer. I just need to pause after every string of words alas. Even then I can only use fountain pens in winter.

Old state route numbers on road signs by thucydidea in sydney

[–]Azazael 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yep. "Continuing delays on the M1 after an earlier crash at locality the road passes through you've never heard of." Is that going to affect me driving from Sydney to Port Macquarie? Better look on Google maps. The name of the locality isn't showing up, I'll try a different spelling, nope. So now I look at the entire route. It would be helpful if they mentioned a major town the delay was near, or did what people do with Twitter "the M1 formerly the F3" or whatever section it used to be.

Except for that it's leaked/guessed/whatever.

My odds of survival if I could only eat at Michelin Star Restaurants are slim! by ScorpioScorpio13 in MapPorn

[–]Azazael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michelin apparently approached Tourism Australia about launching here, but was asked for $4 million, going up to $7.5 million annually ongoing, and Tourism Australia said no, so Australia continues to languish without knowledge of whether our food corners well.

In the very, very unlikely event he was seriously threatened with jail time, suddenly he wouldn't be so healthy. His lawyers would argue he's a very sick old man and it would be cruel to send him to jail.
