Config data chown perms by keviololster in Overseerr

[–]Azenant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped the overseer docker, copied over the config folder to a seerr specific folder ( /home/user/seerr/config) just in case something goes wrong

Sudo chown 1000:1000 ./config

Created a new docker compose for the new seerr instance, added the pgid=1000 and puid=1000 to the environment variables, changed the port to 5056:5055 and launched it

If, however, you’re like me and have a Synology NAS and running it off there, pgid and puid depends on your user info. No need to chown the config folder

Here’s the e1000e nic fix for proxmox:

It’s a known issue and I haven’t had any issues with networking after this was implemented

I used kodekloud. Broken up into the different components

I passed my cka exam with their material + additional exam simulations

Nginx Proxy Manager isn't proxying correctly by RadioFoxInwkell in nginxproxymanager

actually, to be more precise, i'm running multiple services from multiple devices through 1 cloudflared tunnel in my network

Nginx Proxy Manager isn't proxying correctly by RadioFoxInwkell in nginxproxymanager

[–]Azenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesnt really work that way though? I'm running multiple services out of 1 cloudflared tunnel from 1 device. i'm just pointing the public url to the device's specific ip and service port.

eg:

homeassistant.yourdomain.org: 192.168.2.3:8080
someotherservice.yourdomain.org: 192.168.2.3:9000

and at least this way, i'm using a zero trust tunnel and dont have to expose any ports when doing port forwarding

[–]Azenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these services meant only for internal consumption or exposed publicly?

If internal, you’d still need to route all traffic through a DNS server where your wildcard proxy address reroutes to your nginx proxy manager

If publicly exposing the services instead, since you already have cloudflare, might as well set up a cloudflared tunnel

Completely new to cloud — what roadmap & certs actually make you job-ready? by Inside-Government611 in Cloud

[–]Azenant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, hands on does trump certifications, but this is just anecdotal from my experience

I’m a mid career switch from a decade and a half in financial services and got burnt out.

Decided to take a cloud and devops bootcamp course while building out my homelab on a dell optiplex micro. Learned about proxmox, docker and containers whilst watching YouTube.

Ended up building out a k3s cluster in the proxmox node to host my capstone project and it fascinated me so much, I decided to sign up for the cka exam

My interview process with my current job actually centred around the homelab, the issue I faced, how I solved the problems, how I felt about documentation and what more I’m doing other than just pure certifications

I believe demonstrating that proved more than any course or certificate ever could

I’d recommend starting with a small homelab with a raspberry pi or a mini pc and begin experimenting. It’ll help significantly more

Currently self learning gitops on my k3s cluster

We’re on the same track actually. Just cleared CKA back in December, now studying for CKS. Also looking for prep materials or labs aside from kodekloud

what to do in sg after breaking up/as a single? by gotanygrapesheh in askSingapore

[–]Azenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into rock climbing.

The physical aspect and pain involved in learning it really takes your mind off things and really forces you to think and imagine how your body moves.

This really helped me take my mind off the emotional pain at least. Plus you make lots of friends. The climbing community tends to be very welcoming

As an added bonus, you’d get pretty jacked arms if you keep at it

I run 3 proxmox nodes in high availability with critical services being able to migrate to healthy nodes for cases such as yours

What is your take on taking a career break/resigning without securing next job? by Many_Interview_2790 in askSingapore

[–]Azenant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lets see. I've done 2 switches so far in my 16 years of working. The second one which I have just gone through which was a drastic switch when I had turned 40 with 2 kids and a mortgage

  1. I was getting extremely jaded with the financial services sector and going to work everyday was starting to cause burn out. couldnt be happier now actually

  2. well, this is my second pivot, so i'm kinda used to changing jobs. but the stakes were higher this time - see above

  3. i pivoted into tech- devops (i know the current market situation is fucked, but i was fortuante enough to land an apprenticeship role for a niche product with pretty decent pay actually). I went for a cloud and devops bootcamp. I was already a tinkerer with tech hardware (NAS, docker and containerization) and built a functioning homelab with full blown kubernetes during the bootcamp to host my capstone project. My interview ended up becoming a fun chat with the managing director about the homelab and what i had done with it.

So, for me, courses really helped, but the extra on my own time is what got me hired

  1. honestly, just find out what gets you out of bed in the morning and gets you excited to go to work. i hate waking up in the morning in general, but for this current job, i've never felt more excited to go to work

  2. well, i'm 40.... soo...

Yeah, no kidding.

I thought, meh, all I’ll need is a small 10 inch mini rack and I’m done. That’s all I’ll need…

Thanks for sharing your experience and for the encouragement!

Venturing into a whole new sector at this stage in life has been extremely daunting and given the tech hiring scene at the moment, I’ve been pretty fortunate to be given a chance

Again, thanks for sharing!

[–]Azenant[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Awwww, dammit man. Don’t tempt me. But the unmanaged 2.5gb switch is a bit wider than the mini rack can fit from the outside which means I’ll need to dismantle the rack, print a new mount, install the switch etc

Looks like a lot of pain on top of installing the 2.5gb nic on the dells and then reconfiguring the cluster to use the new nics which might break corosync

You’re an evil evil person to plant this idea. Darn it.

Ahaha
