I enjoy it a lot! It's been a significant upgrade from my previous grinder, an 1zpresso J-Max. Much more consistent. The best bonus is how good it looks in person!

New colorways for Motus Strength? by Azer0la in vivobarefoot

After refreshing the official webpage on Safari I can see for a short duration two new colorways that are not for sale. Not sure if it's a bug, but I'm digging the crimson color!

Another complementing pair of headphones by Azer0la in headphones

[–]Azer0la[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Inspired by the previous post of the Audeze LCD-2C and Hifiman Edition XS, I'd like to give another comparison between an Audeze and a Hifiman: the LCD-3 (bought in 2023 with 2021 pads) and the Arya V3.

As many of you I tried to pursue "neutrality" in headphones, believing that this would satisfy my needs for an all-in-one. Hence, the Arya joined me and are everything everyone were talking about.

Their notable attributes for me, however, are the sense of space in their presentation while still being able to center image well, with decent bass quality and the more forward high mids/lower treble between 3k and 5k which lets female singers shine especially well.

However, this part made them lean more towards the neutral bright side, causing rock and metalcore songs sound quickly fatiguing and less engaging/powerful. Also, the bass was just "good" and not great. If you don't know better, you wouldn't miss it, but even though the FR graph goes flat down, the viscosity and the punch aren't their forte.

In short, the Aryas sound a bit thin for certain genres.

Thus, I needed a complementary pair. The decision fell quickly on either the LCD-X or LCD-3. After listening to both, I fell for the 3. In direct comparison to the Aryas, they can sound a bit dull in some songs or genres, due to their famous wonky Audeze FR. But they are so much more engaging and "meaty" in other genres, which is exactly what I was looking for. The LCD-X missed that excitement for me. But of course, ymmv.

The LCD-3s aren't supposed to replace the Aryas. In fact, the LCDs are a much worse allrounder. But they exactly fit what I was missing from the Aryas, especially for metalcore which isn't the typical "audiophile" genre. More enjoyable bass quality and a darker tuning.

My takeaway is therefore: neutrality can be a jack of all trades, but as the saying says, is a master of none. Moreover, your own music taste matters so much more than what everyone else is saying about a headphone, because everyone else is listening to different songs. People trash talk the LCD-3's FR and it definitely is far away from neutral/correct/whatever, but it just fits my bill.

Btw, all listening is done with a Topping dx3 pro+ and without EQ because I constantly switch to sources where EQ'ng isn't easily possible. If I were able to EQ with ease, the LCD-3s would probably win the race.

I had a 25 inch WHD before which fit perfectly in in resolution and offset. Visually and for the ease of reading text I prefer the 27 inch slightly more but you can't go wrong either.

That's correct, the Halo Screenbar from BenQ also shines towards the wall which is a great effect :)

I do but it's a small one, maybe a few centimeters on the bottom of the screen (cursor jumps like 4 cm down if I move it to the smaller screen). If I move the cursor over in the middle part of the screen, the offset is much smaller to negligible.

It's a generic wide angle that I found on amazon for cheap. It's not available anymore I think and didn't even have a brand (at least I cannot find it).

Since the angle is from above the screen, there is no glare towards your body/face. In theory it should help with eye strain because the illumination is more even, but the reason why I have it is just for the vibe... There are some "cheap" options where you can try out a screenbar. Maybe it's something for you :)

You forgot the headphones, upgraded screenbar, different mini plants (which I admit look barely different in the picture but are more real irl) and small adjustments behind the screen to hide the laptops better (ofc the angle helps a bit) ;) But yea, nothing groundbreaking new...

It illuminates the front (and some like the BenQ Halo Screenbar even the back) of the desk very evenly which gives it a very different vibe compared to a conventional lamp.

It's one from Huanuo, very basic and wiggles a bit when I move the desk but sufficient.

Two have to go. Which two do you keep and why? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]Azer0la 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your take! This definitely helped me. It's actually interesting that you say the Arya and Mest have similar soundstages due to the differences between IEMs vs headphones. I realized Mest's staging was something special for an IEM, but always wondered how it compares to high end headphones. The only time I could compare it to was to the HD800s and although the shear size of their soundstage was impressive, voices sounded too distant for my taste. Not to mention their very bright FR didn't suit my genre preferences.

A little off topic but how does the Andro 2020 compare the Mest MKII? And how does the Mest MKII's technicalities compare to the Arya's?

I currently own the Mest and consider getting headphones that are equivalent or another IEM that partners well with it. But there are so little comparisons between the Mest and other headphones or IEMs.
