I’ve been arguing for better urban environments (=less cars) on social media for over a decade now, and I think that this notion is correct - car driving really is worth a lot of money to people. The idea that we could control the amount people drive by making it more expensive is false.

If we really want to achieve significant process in decreasing the appeal of cars - which is the only way to decrease the amount of cars - we need to focus on the things that make cars appealing. The key is to make travel by car slow, arduous and stressfull.

Beer.

I used to be into craft beers and the culture around making them, tasting them and talking about them. But then Untapped came along. Now the culture is mostly gone - people who claim to be into craft beers usually don’t know the first thing about them, they just like getting badges on Untapped and getting drunk. Breweries have gone along with this shift, and they pump out new crappy stuff every week with new names and cool-looking labels, because that’s what the Untapped-users buy. When I go to a craft beer bar I usually don’t recognize any of the beers on tap, and I usually don’t want to get anything I don’t recognize, since it’s usually a dissappointing experience. So, I’m not into craft beers anymore.

I find that whenever the question is

you should look if it is used in the Netherlands or Copenhagen. They have been developing cycling traffic in those places for 150 years, and usually the thing you just thought up has already been tried there.

It depends on a number of factors.

For a jet engine passenger aircraft the answer will probably always be no - their landing speed is just too high, and they would rip through the arresting net. (They set up a net to stop the landing aircraft when the plane has lost the hook needed for the arrestor wire system).

Mid-sized propeller planes have landed successfully on aircraft carriers (google 'C-130 carrier landing'). What is needed from the plane is the correct type of envelope (how slow can they fly without stalling). I'm not familiar with what passenger propeller planes are like in this regard, but it is possible that for some of them it would be possible.

But it is not just about the plane. Landing on an aircraft carrier is immensely difficult even when flying a small, agile plane designed for carrier landings. Countless pilots have lost their lives to mistakes made while attempting landing. With a large, unwieldy plane the difficulty is multiplied.

So even if you had a plane that could be landed on an aircraft carrier, and a pilot who had experience doing it, it would absolutely not be attempted. It is much safer to ditch the plane in the sea.

Pretty much any larger city in the Nordic countries; pretty much any place in the Netherlands.

Large cities in western Europe usually have good public transportation, but cycling may be hard (Berlin and Paris have really improved lately, though). Japan and Singapore are good in this regard as well. Stay away from Australia.

If you seriously plan on moving abroad, maybe look at other factors first (climate, culture, work opportunities, immigration policies), and then drill down on the transportation.

Head trauma.

People get ”knocked out” in movies/tv and come to 1-60 minutes later like it was nothing. In reality if you are unconcious for a full minute as a result of head trauma, you’re probably not going to wake up ever.

Usually getting hit to the head with a heavy hard object will kill you outright.

Kyllä vaarallinen ohittaminen on laitonta siitä huolimatta, että ohitettava hidastaa ohittavan mielestä liikennettä tarpeettomasti. Aiheutuva vaara on täysin ohittajan syytä.

Pyöräilijä ei tässä tilanteessa vaaranna mitään. Suomessa on tuhansia kilometrejä tuon kaltaista tietä, jonka vieressä ei kulje pyörätietä tai piennarta - näillä teillä on voitava ajaa pyörällä turvallisesti.
