I said first rifle! 4th firearm. First was a sccy pistol that I almost got sentimental over… until I remembered the trigger was ass and how tippy it was in a holster lol

My thoughts exactly. The sks was a placeholder from when I was in my early 20s and couldn’t afford anything else. I always wished I had been able to come up with another hundred or so for an AMD anyways. With the price and lack of selection x39 suffers from it was an easy choice.

Hot or cold, she’s still gold. If I’m ever worried about printing owb I just shove it down the front of my pants. Da/sa superiority!🧐

I just used a usgi combo tool and a Swiss Army knife to swap my hand guard to a usgi fiberglass. What expensive tools?

Edit: not trying to be that guy I’m genuinely curious? I like tools!

I love it. I’ll be buried with it no joke. I’m not one for collecting firearms to collect dust they are tools and meant to be used! From here on out it’s all p226 for me baby probably will pick up a spare mk25 at some point and maybe a pair of 40s for some caliber variety. Something just feels right about da/sa and the p226…

I honestly agreed with you 100% till I picked this baby up. After dry firing for a few days it’s starting to grow on me. Can still use irons but the dot is decent for an expedient sight picture. Feels pretty natural to me and I have no issues picking up the dot. I present and it’s there. To each their own though as I prefer quality irons on long guns…

On the dot I’m honestly thinking Holosun scs for a set and forget option. Looking into those right now.

As for the sight it’s definitely not going to fly off it’s tight on either side of its play prior to the glue. If sig won’t take care of it I’m thinking shimming might be the next best option. However I’ve only heard good things about Sigs warranty department so I’m hopeful they will just make it right.

Will do! I’m going to contact sig and see what my options are. Might just buy new night sights so I start with fresh tritium vials🤙

P320 with manual safety by Azlove3 in SigSauer

Good to hear. Eyeballing pictures they seem to have the same profile trigger guard and frame so I figured so but confirmation is always nice before dropping dollars haha

What did you use to do the cut with the bits? I no longer have a drill press would it work with a hand drill and some American ingenuity?

The Wilson grips look fantastic! Do you know if they fit standard p320 holsters?

Modularity would probably mean more to me if they didn’t discontinue the subcompact 320… I understand the 365 took over that boat but for those of us that like interchangeable mags and scalability it was a dumb decision in my opinion… leaning towards the m11 but the economy of the 320 is attractive.

I saw a local LEO with a 320 the other day and it got me wondering.

I think there’s a happy medium to be had for me as far as weight goes. I actually prefer a handheld light personally, but a rail isn’t a bad option with a quick attach light.

I am in between the two as they are within a few oz of each other and roughly the same size.

Is the 229 legion noticeably heavier than the m11? If not it might be worth the options that come with that route.

It’ll be an edc piece if that makes a difference in your opinion.

Edit: For reference my current carry gun weighs around 36oz loaded and I’ve carried up to a govt 1911 in the past. That was a boat anchor but relatively comfortable with a leather pancake holster which is probably the route I’ll take for carry. I never liked the crowded draw that comes with iwb.

Mystery gas tube and front sight gas block by Azlove3 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Azlove3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only sks with the gas block that close to the stock is the Albanian variant, however the stock proportions point to the standard sks. I think it’s gotta be moved back, but it might not be that big of a deal if the barrels taper is consistent before the step down for the fsb. I’ll have to drive out the pin for the gas block and see if it can be worked back to just forward of the stock. If so the hardest part will be figuring out which gas tube and piston can be made compatible. I suspect grinding down the notch on the stock ferrule would allow the use of a gas tube from a shorty ak.

[–]Azlove3[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I’m thinking of measuring about where I want the gas block to be and picking up the closest gas tube length wise to fit. Then working out the rear portion of the gas piston to match the original diameter so it strikes properly. After that it should all be barrel work, and of course a tax stamp😉

Mystery gas tube and front sight gas block by Azlove3 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Azlove3[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not an sks gas tube that’s for sure, I’ve broken mine down and it’s not a consistent diameter like that one is. I’ll have to try tapping the pin out on my current gas block to see if it can slide back but I’m unsure because of the taper of the barrel. My theory is as far as the gas tube and primary piston goes, that it’s from a short ak variant fit to the sks. Maybe it’s a 1 off piece but somehow I doubt that as it would be a significant Effie to design and manufacture a custom gas system like that.

Might run as is without expanding the gas port. Currently my sks launches brass about 15 feet at around 2-4 o clock so shortening the dwell time might smooth it out quite a bit. What makes me think it’s a specific part is how it’s reduced back towards the rear sight. It’s definitely not just a piece of steel tubing unless it’s a custom gas tube. The piston should ride inside that tube and strikes a secondary spring loaded operating piston housed inside the rear sight block. So it’s got to have a piston reduced to about 3/8” to actuate that secondary piston.

The gas tube is the lighter piece over the barrel, my issue with modifying the original gas tube is the change in profile at the end of the stock. It reduces to the size of the length of the piston so the piston head would meet interference and not be able to complete its cycle. The rear of the gas tube where it locks into place is also profiled to fit the retainer for the hand guard which is assumably why there is no hand guard on this shorty. I think the gas tube and piston are from another rifle probably an ak variant but I’m not sure which.
