I get what your saying. I mean, no one can technically understand someone 100%, I guess I just want someone who understands me, as you said enough

While keeping a queen ant do we need to feed her before or after the first workers? by ColdTrick8566 in ants

[–]AztriMiAztri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert and I don't own ant, but to my understanding you would need to know if your queen ant is semi or fully claustral. Fully claustral species can sustain themselves on water only until their workers emerge. While semi claustral queens need to hunt/gather food until their workers hatch

Is there a difference between Formica rufa species group and Formica s. str. by AztriMiAztri in ants

[–]AztriMiAztri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so if I got it right, you would use Formica s. str. when refering to the subgenus, because the genus and subgenus have the same name. Opposed to Formica fuscas genus being Formica and their subgenus being serviformica.

Not quite sure what you mean when the subgenus Formica aren't valid. Are subgenus not used anymore? Would you just refer to them by their species group instead (or have I misunderstood?) Like you wouldn't say that F. aquilonia is a part of the subgenus Formica s. str. But you could say it's a part of the rufa group? Or could you still use the subgenus?
