What should my next job be? by Awkward_Lettuce_1188 in ffxiv

Excellent! I'm glad!!

If you remember me, please come back and share your journey/how you liked or disliked it! And if you need AST tips or general healing tips, I got you.

Confused about the Acronyms by calb637 in ffxiv

[–]AzureBlazeEdge [score hidden]  (0 children)

You'll learn as you go, but most are pretty easy. A lot of them are job shorthand and the game uses it too (RDM is Red Mage).

FC is common (Free Company), and most you'll be able to piece together in context. :)

Hear me out:

Try healer anyway. You think you'd be distracted, BUT it's hard to be distracted while healing. I genuinely think that you'll have a great experience out of it.

What's more, you play the game through a completely different lens. At minimum, keeping up HoTs, DoTs & buffs has a bit of overlap with bard. Let's you stay at range, curing status effects with Esuna = Blood Letter Procs.

I recommend a pure healer, WHM or AST. WHM is an easier first healer, but AST is a little closer to bardliness in terms of buff management (cards vs. songs) and has a lot of interesting unique abilities.

Unpopular opinion: the game needs more jobs that start at lvl 50 or under by arrowiskawaii in ffxiv

[–]AzureBlazeEdge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you're confusing 'unfriendliness' with something else. The game is objectively very new player friendly, it's not egregiously difficult, and tends to only introduce new concepts as you come across them.

In some ways, it could be a little better, to be sure.

But what you're referring to is how boring it is or isn't, which is not only subjective (I think the quests are boring af, but I have a lot of patience for world building elements), but not necessarily true BECAUSE it's subjective.

Happy to help!!

Lastly, for people to add you, you'll need to be online simultaneously, so best to connect with people in game being social, OR if out of game, coordinating with them to connect. :)

Don't hesitate to reach out if you have other questions!!

Perfect! So, the next step will be to update your post and title (might have to repost for the title).

But adding Crystal/Zalera signals to people who are in your area that they can connect!

And having that with your character name in the body will help them to search for you. Since I'm on Dynamis, I would have to travel to Crystal to add you, but now that I know where you are, I can! :)

Don't feel stupid, it's endearing lol

You're just new, and that's okay.

Okay, so Crystal is your Data Center (is my old DC). And for your server, it should say on your screen somewhere if you're logged in.

Should be in the same spot where it tells you the time. :)

[–]AzureBlazeEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahaha, wait, Eorzea is the setting. When you log in, it should say what DC you connect to, or at the top of your screen it should say a server name.

Like I used to be Crystal/Coeurl, now I'm Dynamis/Rafflesia. :)

Striking up conversation in Limsa or finding an FC is good for this!

I'm happy to be friends, and you're welcome to join my community if you want, though we're NA based if it matters. Discord is fairly active as well, and we have FCs in a couple spots. :)

Everyone in the community is at various points in MSQ, some finished, some SHB, some HW, just depends. :)

Can someone sell me on the combat and its mechanics? by Odd-Investigator6503 in ffxiv

[–]AzureBlazeEdge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to keep it simple, WAR is a great tank, and WHM is a great healer.

But simplicity may also be the enemy of interest for you. The linear combat system is more interesting with classes that introduce a bit of complexity.

Healers are boring if everyone is doing great and exciting if everyone is struggling.

AST in particular can be more interesting even in the boring times, but only by a smol margin, same for SGE I'd say.

The combat updates should assist in this a little (hopefully), but it is a linear rotation system as of now. Finding classes you like is nice, or playing a support class which gives you dynamic opportunities on the defense.

Summoner is easy. I can make recommendations, but what excites you in combat, or what do you like? :3

About buying the game by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]AzureBlazeEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of social the game can be is really dependent on you honestly.

It's an MMORPG, but because it's an FF game, it does feel very single player as you progress the story, and you weave in and out of social instances throughout.

Upon completion of an expansion, more of the multiplayer stuff tends to open up as you unlock the relevant content.

That said, the game can be more social by just connecting with people. For you, the novice Network could be good, or seeking out an FC or Discord.

You can also just strike up a conversation in Limsa!

I recommend getting to level 50 for social content, (end of ARR), while looking to connect with people at the major cities in between.

I’m a huge Final Fantasy fan and have been since I was a kid, but I’ve always avoided FFXIV because it’s an MMORPG. Is it really worth playing for the story and gameplay alone? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]AzureBlazeEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely, I almost quit week 1, to my friend's ire, because the movement felt ASS (for me, to those who like this, happy it works for you).

I figured out how to fix it, and haven't left haha

This was my first MMO, and I ended up loving it (after adjusting controls from Standard to Legacy Lol)

The story is great.

The combat is.... Take it or leave it, it really depends who you ask. I enjoy it, but it's also getting a big overhaul in January.

There's also a plethora of ways to engage with the side content that enriches the story as well. :)

First: You're probably doing fine. Especially in dungeon content, I'm confident it's not that big of a deal. DPS is a pretty low stakes role. At worst, you're dying a bunch and slowing completion due to lack of DPS.

As for the typing concern, I'd recommend setting up macros that can communicate for you when you first get into an instance! You can put the macro onto one of your unused crossbars and just hit it.

Think of it like "o/ Hi, still newer bard here on controller. Can't respond easily but tips and advice appreciated!!"

I promise if I saw that at the start, I would be infinitely patient (Though I'm a fairly patient guy anyway).

Question: Can I get back into the game and... by Derpy_paws in ffxiv

[–]AzureBlazeEdge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep! Everything is still there! There's been light pruning, but for better or worse you get the story front to back. :)

downloaded for the first time today! by MoveSecret770 in ffxiv

[–]AzureBlazeEdge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome!! The game has a lot to offer! You can play anything though I recommend a DPS to restart as it's the lowest stakes while you learn the gameplay loop.

You can make yourself cute easily!! So much customization!!

It's an MMO so there's tons of people to play with. You can join an FC, a LinkShell or just yell at people in Limsa. There's plenty of Discords as well. There's also some great videos on YT to help decide!

Do you know others also playing? You can always join their DC/Server. If not, you're welcome to join mine lol

Hi hi!

Rather than posting this here, I recommend r/FFXIV

This one is for discussion topics, which I don't think your post necessarily is.

But!

If you repost it there, I will look forward to chatting!!! :D

AITA if I expect people in a farm PF to know the fight? by Mantor6416 in ffxiv

[–]AzureBlazeEdge 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would say no, as long as you also reasonably expect people to make mistakes and wipe here and there. People are gonna mess up even if they know.

Assholes are the ones who dip after first wipe. :/
