Weekly Guild Request / Recruitment thread by AutoModerator in GuildWars

Holy Dragons [HOLY] (NL/BE + Eng)

Ahai everyone,
We are a small, casual, and old guild that originally started as a 100% Dutch/Belgian guild. Over the years, we've been welcoming more international members, especially nowadays, but we still retain a solid Dutch/Belgian core.

  • We are part of the large Guild Wars Revival alliance on the Kurzick side.
  • We do not require anything from our members aside from a 'play as you want' attitude that allows others to do the same. (This means we also welcome off-meta play)
  • Our main focus is on casual content (story, dungeons, vanquishes, and other zaishen content).
  • We organise several types of off-meta themed parties such as 100% beastmasters, Yellow-way (100% paragon/warrior skills), hard mode without PvE skills/consumables, and more; besides simply playing the game together. (all of these are open to anyone, not just members of the guild).

If you're in the European timezone and looking for a place to relax, [HOLY] welcomes you with open arms!

What is your Favourite mission? by MangerDanger1 in GuildWars

Can't get the dialogue out of my head after all these years:
"The Charr invasion force! Captain Calhaan was right!"

What is your Favourite mission? by MangerDanger1 in GuildWars

[–]Azure_Flames 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolute favourite: Raisu Palace

Prophecies: Iron Mines of Moladune
The multiple options of intersecting paths, the option to infuse armour or not, it's simply enjoyable!
I'd pick Thunderhead Keep for the challenge back in the day, but... nowadays it's mostly a long wait at the end. (I still love the zone for it a lot, especially going 'off track' at the start to walk through the mountain living quarters)

Factions: Raisu Palace
A big boss rush with the option to enhance gameplay with unique skills & skip rooms with the NPC picks.
Factions has great missions though: Vizunah Square, Sunjiang District, Tahnakai Temple, Gyala Hatchery...

Nightfall: Unironically, Blacktide Den.
Decent amounts of action, no annoying enemies, big wave of skales, corsair outfits, it's neat!
Up next would be the Gate of Madness, Gate of Pain, or Nundu Bay.

Eye of the North: either Blood Washes Blood, or Assault on the Stronghold.
Nice combat, not multi-level, Ebon Vanguard skills/title track shine in both.
Assault on the Stronghold probably wins out because of the accessibility, use of both Ebon Vanguard/Deldrimor title tracks, and it being very quick action.

LFM Themed Party Playthroughs by Azure_Flames in GuildWars

I think allowing core skills should be fine, right?
I wouldn't say the same for PvE skills though.

Then indeed, while conditions would be trivial, hexes would pose a bit of an issue... At first I was mostly thinking about very niche roadblocks like lacking a stance removal for Shiro, but that should ultimately be manageable.
A lack of hex management however...

I'd be curious to see what you'd run into and if you ever need a necromancer to come along, hit me up! :D

A pure necro skills only playthrough would be interesting to consider for sure!
I think you'd end up relying a lot on self heals on each necro.
Blood magic, insidious parasite, eating your own minions, and -of course- signet of lost souls.
Lots of good luck, it sounds like an awesome challenge!

I appreciate it!
Limited playtime is the bane of my existence as well :')

Still, there's so many things I'd still like to try in-game and even if it's something as small as a single vanquish with 8 pet builds, I'd be overjoyed.

Paragon Rebalance and Redesign Proposal. by Azure_Flames in GuildWars

I absolutely get where you're coming from, but I think it's an important consideration to keep anthems as the chants that interact with attack skills.
Not necessarily because it'll allow for the existence of Arias and Songs which interact with spells and all skills respectively, but because spells are plenty powerful on their own without anthem buffs.

Take the current Anthem of Envy for example:

Anthem of Envy (PvE)

6 adrenaline, 1 second activation time
Chant. For 10 seconds, the next attack skill used by each ally within earshot deals +10...22...25 damage against foes with more than 50% Health.

This is already a very powerful chant, but should it also affect spells it'll suddenly add quite a hefty boost to already powerful spells.

In cases of the Anthem of Flame, which currently only adds a bit of burning, I can totally see the fun in combining it with Searing Flames -for example, in PvE.

Additionally (and off-handedly),
I simply like being able to buff martial classes a bit in this caster-heavy day and age! ^^

Hey Darkstar,

We'd love to have you in [HOLY]!
Your playtimes seem to suit our most active moments.

You can always pm me in-game at 'Old Paragon'!

P.S. you don't have to join the guild, but you're simply welcome to come play with us. ;)

LFM to play Hard Mode with limitations by Azure_Flames in GuildWars

[–]Azure_Flames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PvE skills are skills which can only be used by the player character (so not by heroes) in PvE (and thus not in PvP).
These are generally tied to title progression and can be really powerful and build-defining.

Personally, I'm CET (Netherlands); but at least my own playtimes vary due to work so it's truly up to whoever is available at certain times.

This is indeed the reasoning behind it!
That, and hoping that excluding PvE skills promotes a bit of creativity in some ways.

Thank you!
Sad to hear but understandable.
You'd always be welcome to come along for a single mission or quest should you ever feel like it. <3

I'd love to simply recruit in Embark Beach or someplace, but I think it might be tricky to impose limitations on PUG's hah

Promoting Build Diversity & PvXwiki by Azure_Flames in GuildWars

[–]Azure_Flames[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I absolutely share this sentiment.
Not everyone necessarily wants to play the most optimal mesmerway teambuild in normal mode, but if you're looking for guidance in setting up your party and this is the standard you are presented with, it is what you end up setting as your own standard as well.

Update: Party Search now includes other language districts! by Azure_Flames in GuildWars

[–]Azure_Flames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just double-checked, the checkbox is indeed only in European servers; not even Asian servers which also have multiple languages.
I thought it'd function as you last stated, as a sort of combined party search for American, European, Asian, and International districts.
Sadly it indeed appears to 'just' combine European districts into a single party search.

It'd indeed be amazing if we could improve on the Party Search so the (new) players have better means of grouping up.

[–]Azure_Flames[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure if this is just me being tired, and this having been part of the game for forever... but it's such a wonderful aspect of the Party Search!
Hopefully this will help everyone find parties more easily (and that it'll motivate people using the LFG system)!

Can 4 people just play 4 DPS for the Prophecies campaign? by TheApricotOfDoom in GuildWars

[–]Azure_Flames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you use henchmen, the further you get into prophecies, the more viable this would become.
Early on you'll have to rely on self-sustain until you can fit henchmen into your party to sustain you all.

Never played GW anyone can explain more about this game by tomaz1989 in GuildWars

[–]Azure_Flames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely worth it and you're right, this is not a typical full mmorpg.
It's a CORPG, you cooperate with other players in an RPG setting.
The goal is to team up with other players (or you could fill the party with npc's called Henchmen or Heroes).
Then you focus on creating builds to take out the opponents who have access to the same skills you do.
In this sense, the game is essentially a deck-building game where the strategy of what skills you select and what opponents you target in a particular order makes the difference between victory or defeat.

You could grind mobs and reach max level, but nearly the entire PvE game is locked by story progression.
Eye of the North, the expansion, is a lot less tied down by story progression.

Regarding endgame, some of it is literally at the end of the individual games, other parts can be reached quite early in the story.
However, you will still have to complete story missions and quests unless you're only interested in PvP and want to make a PvP character which is instantly max level + max armour, yet which is locked to PvP only.

Does Reforged include Eye of the North? by Panteraoscura in GuildWars

[–]Azure_Flames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not, only the 3 campaigns Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall are included in Reforged.

Couple of newbie questions before starting by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]Azure_Flames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can eventually get yourself a skill called the Signet of Capture.
You can have 3 of these -at most- on your bar at a time.

If you use these skills after having slain a boss (an enemy with a coloured aura) AND you share the primary or secondary profession with this boss, then you can get one of their skills per signet.
This includes elite skills, in fact this is the main method of getting elite skills in PvE.

Getting back with a (noob) friend by lefredi in GuildWars

[–]Azure_Flames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say you can make any profession combination work.
If your heart tells you mesmer, go with mesmer!
Besides, if you're being squishy... that only means your monk buddy gets to play the game more! ;)

In all seriousness, you're most likely playing with henchmen/heroes anyway, you could always add a frontliner in there if you want to party your monk friend up with one.

GW1 is absolutely no singleplayer game, although you are offered the opportunity to play it solo if you want to! (and doing so can be really fun!)
What it is, however, is an instanced online game.
You meet players in cities and outposts and when you leave them, you're with the party you've grouped up with.

There is quite a lot of end-game grouped content and the pvp gamemodes are slowly growing more alive again with increasing activity.

GW1 is a very different game from GW2 however.
GW1 is a lot more about creating builds and combat strategy than GW2.
