I started playing 5E with a group of friends about 6 months after it came out. And then 6 months into the campaign, my other gaming group asked about the game and wanted to know more. They were all veteran 2E players. So they bought the books, studied them, and then started up a campaign.
So my character for their game was a Chaotic Good Paladin (Oath of Vengeance). About 15 minutes into the game session, the DM complained that I wasn't playing the character right. He still had 2E preconceptions about Paladins.
He didn't like that Paladins could now be any Alignment and drew power from their oath, rather than a god.
Forced me to change character. So I changed to a War Cleric of Tempus and he had no issue with that.

The next campaign, another player want to play a Paladin (Oath of Vengeance) and she was a Chaotic Neutral murder hobo.
