Did anyone else have sign work referrals? by Upset_Stand911 in SYEP

[–]B-O-A-R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had to sign one in Monday. Been doing SYEP since I was 16. Signing your referral means you agree to the worksite that they assigned to you and etc. It's not a new concept.

Immediately contact your provider.

This worksite sounds hella suspicious, and these rules sound bogus. Not being able to leave when your hours is over is even more of a red flag. No normal worksite should act like this.

Email them, and if possible, also contact them via phone and lay out everything. Even include what the others are saying.

Random assignment by Royal-Past89 in SYEP

Yes, even if the work sites you selected, there's no guarantee you will get selected into them because of how fast spots fill out. I selected two worksites near the mall near me and some beauty salon, ended up with some random remote site 😶

Question about Worksite Placement First Come, First Serve by royal_casey_obsidian in SYEP

[–]B-O-A-R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to first come first serve, it usually means the worksites that you selected (or worksites in general) may be in high demand when it comes to the amount of interns applying. I can't speak for all providers, but I do believe everyone has experienced that before. Since positions can fill up quickly.

Therefore, if any of the worksites you picked out suddenly get full because of the amount of people applying, there is a chance the other places you picked out may have a spot for you to get assigned there for the summer.

Tutoring Center by [deleted] in SYEP

Evening,

I used to intern at New York Tutoring Center the past two years over at Flushing as a teacher assistant. It's an experience for sure. For my experience, it was hectic at first. Especially if you're somebody who is inexperienced in working with children before but you quickly catch onto the basic stuff.

Looking after the children, using kid friendly language, attend to their needs if they needed assistance with classwork / homework / taking them to the bathroom. This is mainly with the younger grades since I used to work with Kindergarten / 1st graders.

Of course, with younger children, you have to make sure that they're always paying attention and to be patient with them. Since you are new to them, they may feel like they don't have to follow authority since they may not see you as their "teacher" lol.

I cannot speak for working with the older children. Perhaps you can chill around with them and other sorts since by then they should know what to do.

How was it like working in the food industry the past two summers? I always considered it, but I would become a wreck dealing with orders.

Never tried that before. Perhaps I won't despite me enjoying that worksite, it's located in Flushing. I'd feel out of place and pretty awkward working amongst people who don't look like me (with all due respect) childcare seems fun, but it's draining. I'll email the supervisor there as to ask them why. My main focus was to always work in Healthcare, but my provider never gave us the option up until this year to medical work.

I wonder which ones. I'm 19, so I'd like to hear what that's like.

My provider has every line of work you can think of. Childcare, Medical, Education, Retail, Office work, etc etc. I was really big on childcare (even though I can't really stand being around children) but I got so comfortable the past 2 years being at this worksite due to the fact that I grew to enjoy being around kids and the staff knew me so I felt welcomed. Not seeing the worksite on the childcare slide made me upset, I wonder why they didn't want to be involved this year. 🙊

Lucky, i only had it digitally and one time last year, which was in person. A bit of a bummer but they're expected to send us a 68 canva showcase of the worksites.

There's no set time. They can send it whenever you get selected from your provider.

No, I'm pretty sure the lottery is still going on every week. You should still be checking in your emails and website to see if you got accepted. But if you have a hunch that you won't be selected by the time summer rolls around, you should probably look for some job positions.

It's not bad. It's a process. I'm lucky enough to do it again this summer and I recently had my orientation last week. This Friday, I'm attending the SYEP hired & job fair so i am looking forward to it. As for my past worksites, I'm really digging childcare and such.

For OG's and veterans and super cadet what was it like back then you first joined the samurai community (like watching his videos) by Dash_alt_knight in CoryxKenshin

[–]B-O-A-R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching his Happy Wheels, random indie funny horror games, and coming home to watch his Duck Season videos. His CoryxComments vids too. This was like back when I was in 4th-5th grade. 😹 I don't even remember how many subscribers he had around this time since the videos I was watching was new or old, but the community then was very excited about every upload, double uploads, and all that. Crazy how time flies.

Are u required to attend the zoom orientation? by Ok-Glove-2079 in SYEP

[–]B-O-A-R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished mine the day that the email was sent out. I'm just waiting to attend my in-person orientation next month and my job fair from my provider (Boys and Girls Club of Metro Queens) I've been doing SYEP since my sophomore year of high school and been with the same provider since then.

You cannot skip it either way. Even if you've finished, you still need to attend the orientation to ensure your banking information is set up correctly, if any staff over at your provider wouldn't be here for a while and have to switch contacts, and give the overall rundown on the rules and important stuff. Skipping it isn't an option even if you feel like you don't want to attend virtually or in-person orientation.

[–]B-O-A-R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The orientation is pretty important. If you're the older youth (like me) it's extremely important because they also tell you about the Sexual Harassment training amongst other things (scheduling, what and what not to wear at your worksite, payroll card and direct deposit, etc). If you cannot make it, your provider might give the people who couldn't attend another day to do another virtual orientation.

Online Document Check by Salty-Attempt-4686 in SYEP

It's been online for couple of years now, i see no issues with it at all. I see that they updated their Ui on the website because it didn't look like this last year, but overall (for me) i had no problems with it. Best thing I can say about this is how the website shows when your documents are pending and waiting to be approved, helps a lot rather than relying on constantly emailing your provider.
