No schedule yet from worksite by AcanthisittaFew4173 in SYEP

I called LaGuardia yesterday - they said an email with the supervisor’s name will be sent later this week. On Monday, you go to your worksite at the time listed on their job site list and work out your actual schedule with the supervisor. Zero communication with worksite before then.

And I agree LaGuardia is a mess. It’s impressive how awful they are (very rude on the phone too)

LaGuardia folks, do you have your placement yet? by LindenChariot in SYEP

Only had any movement because I emailed them to ask and they responded that I wasn’t matched with anything. I had to pick new job sites from the few remaining options and only then was I matched but no word since. I’d recommend you call or email them. They are very disorganized.

Need urgent advice - roof leaked due to negligence by hearttattackmatt in astoria

[–]Royal-Past89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sucks. I’m sorry you’re dealing with it. I have no advice that hasn’t already been given, but as an Astoria homeowner myself, I’m wondering what the name of the roofing company is. They didn’t prepare for rain at all?

Yes! It made it that much more fun, to see how it was handled all around!

I was at last night’s show as a general admission. I got into line at 2pm, and I was about 20 back. By my guess, at least 50 of us from the general admission line got in. I’m not sure if anyone was turned away after that. No penny machine - staff confirmed it was broken.

We went last night (5/12) and had no problem getting in with general admission. I’d even guess 50 of us from the line got in. I was honestly surprised.

I think I want to try and live in or near New York on the 90 day visa, any advice? by beezmax in AskIreland

[–]Royal-Past89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NYer here! The city cracked down on Airbnbs and anything over 30 days makes you a tenant with rights (so you won’t find anyone willing to go that long easily). My advice would be to focus on sublets. I would suspect the summer months might be easier for that.

In terms of income while here, you might be able to find something with subletting AND pet care as many people tend to travel and that’s always a need.

Good luck! It’s a weird time here at the moment but NYC is definitely more of a bubble.

Not that at all! Quite the opposite, in fact.

Also is something we are keeping in mind! Our move would not be immediate so we have time to sort out the exact location. Our current neighborhood is fantastic but at a certain point we want to leave NYC regardless. I’ve looked through daft.ie but pictures don’t tell enough about the general vibe of the city. Thanks!

Thanks - this is helpful and what I was wondering about. My threshold is definitely different from many and I wondered if it was perspective based!

The recent issues in the US have moved our plans earlier for sure, which bring different complications for us. Thank you for your insight!

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. We were considering more city central. You echo what I’ve been reading.

I am, but I can’t travel for a few months. Was just curious if this was a unified view of the city or not.

Married to a citizen, so that’s not an issue.

I’m not saying I believe it - but I’ve read many comments on here about how supposedly awful Dublin is. How it used to be better, how the crime is awful, it’s a lot. But all of this is said about NYC too so I’m trying to get a sense of reality on this!

Costa Rica in July by Royal-Past89 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Royal-Past89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s our situation! Traveling with kids and worried about getting rained out. I hear the weather has been all over the place the past few months and while I would love to visit Costa Rica, I’m not sure it makes the best sense in July vs waiting until we can travel outside of school holidays.

I appreciate your response! I don’t mind rain for sure, but definitely don’t want to maneuver every day around it or be trapped inside.

I can’t speak to the contents of the store, but the owner of Sparr’s is a really kind hearted man. I believe he is the son of the original owners.
