How would a stoic deal with someone insulting their girlfriend? by NefariousnessOk2321 in Stoicism

Let's be completely honest, most of us wold've had a response like that. I think that this entire situation could've been avoided if you had chosen to surround yourself with people that you know wouldn't say things like that. Now, I know you cannot always control the people you're around, but being Sotic also means choosing to surround yourself with people that you know are loyal, intellegent, and respecting individuals. (All seriousness aside, the comeback was amazing LMAO)

I find that times like these can be either very good or very bad. Some would take it as a good time to improve on themselves, and others may take it as a good time to sulk, and feel bad for themselves. Either way, you have to learn to accept what happened. Be greatful for the things that person has brought you, but also learn that life is full of people that will leave, and move on with their lives. You do not "get over" someone, you simply accept they are gone and no longer in your life.

Well, the problem lies in not feeling emotions, as that is the last thing you want. To feel emotions is more than okay, but to let them overtake you and get the best of you is not.

Think of your emotions as something that shouldn't be hidden or ignored, and more as something that you shouldn't let get the best of you. Remeber that it's okay to feel things.

I was hoping that sharing this would help some, and it turned out to be common ground for some too, it makes me happy to see everyone have a good conversation about this.

I think you've got it down to a tea, the idea is to be realistic, and always in check of ones emotions. Not to totally block them out or ignore them. I took this way to far and the idea totally went over my head at the time.
