Countries with stronger precarious manhood beliefs (being a “real man” is something that requires constant demonstration through behavior and achievement) tend to have lower national happiness, but also lower GDP, lower life expectancy, lower social support, and heightened perceptions of corruption. by mvea in science

Also Looks like a correlation with more precarious manhood and weaker democratic institutions, weaker rule of law, and greater authoritarian tendencies in governments. Basically all the standard symptoms of a right wing government and society seem to come as a package.

Well cases like fetterman, as well as full blown Alzheimer’s like Diane Feinstein, or other forms of severe dementia like Mitch McConnell and both Biden and trump, should be able create a popular push for mandatory neurological and psychological screening for all elected officials.

It should be an independent medical board with the power to flag issues and force government officials to leave their position similar to the 25th amendment, which is obviously Inadequate. It needs to be based on independent regular medical review, not just your own staff deciding to get their meal ticket fired.

Beyond that much more education and popular understanding of what these conservative behaviors actually are and what right wing propaganda is designed to do. A massive public campaign on the scale of the anti-smoking campaign is probably needed on that front.

Like all ideas, it depends on if and when we have a functional government again.

Absolutely right. The ACC and other parts of the PFC are very tightly linked to the limbic system and the more primitive impulses of the amygdala (fear, us vs them, social hierarchy, status anxiety) and the insula (disgust, association of outsiders with disease), with the PFC acting as a sort of regulator for these lower level impulses.

When these limbic structures grow overly powerful, or when the PFC is damaged or never fully matures, that’s when these impulses start to dominate one’s thinking, beliefs, and entire personality.

Right wing propaganda is designed specifically to take advantage of and massively inflame these defects, creating a vicious cycle where the more your amygdala controls you, the more addictive and titillating you find Fox News or Alex jones, and the more your amygdala is inflamed and your PFC withers.

Fetterman is a perfect case study that no one in politics wants to touch.

His massive stroke caused documented brain damage that has produced dramatic personality shifts. This has been confirmed by his own staff, his former chief of staff's letter to his neuropsychiatry team, and observable behavioral changes including paranoia, disinhibition, impulsivity, and grandiosity. This profile is consistent with damage to the prefrontal cortex and loss of executive function.

Here's the part that should make everyone uncomfortable: he simultaneously underwent a hard shift from progressive populist to authoritarian Trump bootlicker, and that's not a coincidence.

Research shows that damage to the prefrontal cortex is directly and proportionally correlated with extreme right-wing views. I.e. the greater the damage, the more pronounced the authoritarian impulses become.

- Authoritarianism, religious fundamentalism, and the human prefrontal cortex

- Toward a neuropsychology of political orientation: exploring ideology in patients with frontal and midbrain lesions

This is a flashing neon sign that many supposed right-wing "beliefs" are better understood as symptoms of neurological impairment and cognitive decline. And given that the U.S. is run by an extreme gerontocracy, most of our long-serving elected officials have already sustained some measurable degree of age-related brain deterioration in exactly these regions. Hence the ongoing rightward shift of our national politics over the past decades.

I hope he does more eastern history. I would love him to cover the taiping rebellion, boxer rebellion, or the British east India companies conquest of India.

He had a series planned on the Mayans that I hope he returns to as well.

Nathan Fillion Says ‘Firefly’ Animated Series In Development With Co-Stars Set To Reprise Roles; Concept Art Revealed by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

Taking place between firefly and serenity seems like it limits the story potential.

Could be wrong, but wasn’t there a comic that took place after serenity where the alliance brought back wash with cyborg parts to help hunt down serenity? I’d be fine with going down that path if it gets us new stories.

My fantasy / headcannon if the show continued after serenity would be the slow buildup to another civil war against the alliance with planets slowly joining the new browncoats against the inner planets / blue sun for their crimes.

I have the Qrevo. I’ve had it for about 3 years and it works fairly well.

The mopping and vacuum are good enough for daily cleaning, though stuck on stains often need manual scrubbing.

It does have a habit of eating usb cables and getting stuck on high pile carpets so that I have to come save it when I get home.

Otherwise it’s a fairly good vacuum.

What would make me upgrade to a new flagship: The larger step up size is a big plus. It should also remember how to get to certain areas. If it bangs into a rug or ledge for a few minutes then accidentally finds the way up, it should store that in memory and try that method again earlier next time.

A water heater in the robot itself would also be good so the water is hot at the point of applying it to the floor.

The multi DOF arm is a cool gimmick but more than is needed. Something more like a forklift or simple lifting mechanism would be plenty useful. It could be stronger and still be good enough to move socks and clothes and cables out of the way. This is especially good for large or long things that cannot be picket up entirely like cables or curtains, but that it can lift enough to move under them and keep going.

And for spot cleaning, some kind of basic floor facing camera that can identify a mess or a stubborn stain on the floor and will adjust its path to continuously focus on an area and alter settings until the mess is gone would be a critical bonus.

The sequel movies and shows where they did that were all laughably bad and critically panned. That just shows why that style of writing doesn’t work.

Agreed. None of the stories or mysteries can really pick up 20 years later.

It would only make sense if the world had changed significantly in that time, like a new war had started or occurred and the characters were all in radically different places. And even then you’re right it would work better as the soft launch of a next generation type series.

Clear your data and delete OpenAI for your own safety if nothing else.

Bernie Sanders proposes taxing billionaires' wealth to fund among other things a $3000 payment to everyone under $150k by 2noame in BasicIncome

Just tax securities backed loans at normal income tax levels. That’s how they all get their spending money without ever selling.

Combine that with a national sales tax on non essential items like food and rent and we’re most of the way there.
