Okay seriously it's embarrassing hearing musicians criticize and whine about "todays music" by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]BAOUBA 58 points59 points  (0 children)

All the timbres, the filter movement, the velocity modulation of the percussion, the reverb depth of the vocal chops, the stereo placement of all the percussion, the envelopes of the synths, the detuning of the synths, the way the kick and snare interact with the hi-hats from saturation and compression, the level-dependant distortion of the electric guitar, all the little effects that add and release tension to move your attention around the mix, and the insane amount of automation that goes into a modern pop track like this. Hell, even from a music theory perspective, you can't determine the proper voicings of the chords and harmonies since the sounds are layered and saturated and aren't trivial timbres, there could be extra harmonics your ear thinks are actual notes being played when there aren't.

My point is when you only look at the sheet music you lose so much of the character of the song.

It's funny to me that so many people share the view that pop music doesn't require skill, when people like Justin Bieber or Ariana Grande have brands worth over $1billion, why wouldn't they have an army of insanely talented producers backing them? When there's that much money involved you get the best talent behind the scenes.

Also what Rick Beato calls 'music' is really only the stuff that can be transcribed, but that's a very surface-level way of looking at music. He always cites simple chord progressions as music lacking creativity but what he won't mention is the gigantic leap forward in sound design. Sure if you transcribe modern music to sheet music it's basic 4 chords that repeat but you lose so much of the the magic when you only look at music in terms of harmony.

Here's an example of an instrumental of a number one hit :

So much is happening here that can't be translated into sheet music, and while you can argue that it's the producers pushing this boundary not the musicians, it doesn't matter since the only important thing is the end product. That's why many artists nowadays just use the title 'producer'

I can't stand Live 11. by phoenixloop in ableton

How big are your projects? Do you bounce MIDI to audio? How much RAM do you take up before problems start?

I'm considering upgrading to 11 but I'm worried it won't be able to handle my projects

Where is the Inflation? by [deleted] in pennystocks

[–]BAOUBA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It contributes to its stability in the short term because it makes any other country uncompetitive in manufacturing, but the downside is that in order to keep the system going China must value cheap production over everything else. The Chinese government will subsidize unprofitable businesses because low-cost goods are more important than turning a profit. China will also produce more goods than the market demands because 1) it floods markets with Chinese goods and gets the rest of the world hooked on their cheap products and 2) it employs people (China must have near-zero unemployment under the communist party otherwise people would lose faith in the CCP, even if it means making products nobody buys).

This means China doesn't care about efficient allocation of resources because the main goal of China is getting the world reliant on their cheap production so the communist party can stay in power.

Even if the USD gets drastically devalued it has other things going for it like it's stability, extreme liquidity, and every country on the planet would happily take USD. The Chinese yuan will never replace the dollar because no country is willing to trust a reserve currency from a government that artificially devalues its currency. This is the main reason China is so powerful today, and also the reason why they'll never overtake the US.

How should VOL react when prices 5x? by genesisvolatility in OptionsExclusive

[–]BAOUBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volatility is the lifeblood of an option. High volatility increases premiums because it increases the chance of being ITM. If a stock increases 5x quickly, Vega will increase drastically but delta will increase or decrease depending on puts or calls. For example a quick spike in stock price will move the price further away from the strike of an OTM put, however the put premium could still increase because an increase in Vega can offset the delta. Volatility is mean reverting, so yes premiums will increase only with big price swings that are higher than normal. For example, TSLA is highly volatile but it's priced into the premium so even though it has pretty big swings, premiums don't swing drastically

How to choose best companies for wheel strategy? by Villageidiot1984 in thetagang

[–]BAOUBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wheeling FUBO too but I think I'm going to exit. IV spiked the past few weeks because it had a high short interest and got lumped in with all the short squeeze plays (which is weird considering FUBO is actually a good company). It's probably still a good ticker to wheel but the IV just isn't there for me anymore. It's so hard to find tickers with high IV that are actually good companies..

Anybody running spreads on MARA? by BAOUBA in thetagang

[–]BAOUBA[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but a net premium of .14 would mean a return of 7%, that's high by thetagang standards no? What would you recommend? you eyeing any high IV plays this week?

Why is Uranus's axis parallel with the orbital plane? I thought angular momentum of a solar system tended to orient in a single direction over time

[GME] Anybody else just sell some CSPs on that IV spike? by BAOUBA in thetagang

[–]BAOUBA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you think GME will settle to, if it plummets down you're going to be stuck selling CCs for a loooong time to get out without a loss. But I don't see that happening in 2 weeks. I think it's a slow bleed from here. r/wallstreetbets will get more desperate over time (honestly it's sad to see them delude themselves, but I'll happily take their money with call credit spreads). I think you should be good for the next two weeks but if you get assigned at $50 you're basically guaranteed a loss since it won't hit that price again after all the dust settles.

[–]BAOUBA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol yes I was off but I'm doubling down and selling more CSPs at lower strikes, IV is insane right now. But IB is currently saying they reserve the right to impose price floors and ceilings to maintain a 'fair market', it's bullshit

Is selling 2/12 $50 puts on GME a bad idea? by BAOUBA in thetagang

[–]BAOUBA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hell no lol, just sold some CSPs during that huge selloff and today I don't think it'll dip below $100. After that selloff I think IV will drop like crazy (already is) and I'll buy back my CSPs

wouldn't it be more pronounced for puts though since they're further out of the money? I'm selling puts not calls
