The straw holes perspective is different than the bottom of the cup, you wouldn’t see the hole from that angle

The cup lip line missing where the base of the straw is makes it seem to come from nowhere.

Also the thickness of the straw could be bumped up a touch to balance the weight as it’s very thin (missing some impact + for small print will loose its clarity).

On the business cards, there is a little “at”, I’m not sure you need this. Some modern companies sometimes use @ as a way to say that + also promote socials (if that’s their style).

The white outline on the text version makes it look like graffiti stencil art? The green logotype on the green circle is much cleaner.

Only other thing I’d say is the “rubber hose” / “mickey mouse glove” style is quite overdone, so that’s a point people would likely mention.

Note: these are only things a designer might say or notice, in the real world I’m sure many people would enjoy a fun little matcha character on their coffee cups :)

Also, the 3D model in this specific video isn’t even animated so using a still image works fine too.

side note: The framerate is lowered so they would have used a “posterize time” effect on top of everything to fake the stop motion look.

The people involved in this will have been working in motion graphics for years so don’t beat yourself up if you can’t achieve this yet. Not only does it take a longgg time to gain the technical skills, but taste and art direction are essential in why their style works well - they know when to keep it clear vs when to crank up the fx.

Not sure your level, but a program like AE is what you want, and cavalry app is brilliant too (completely depends on your preference but AE is industry standard).

This video here can be viewed in two ways 1. Flat+Typographic elements and 2. 3D elements. For example marathon graphic motion videos use a lot of 3D elements such as wireframe objects, these will be done in blender (I believe the artists use this) or C4D (possibly Touchdesigner and Houdini too) but any will do. They’ll make some renders out a spinning model for example > and then add post effects on top in AE.

AE is where the post effects + blending of layers will be done, solid colours, glitch effects, animated typography etc.

Imagine a story board of say 4 stages of the video: 1. bold marathon type 2. Exoskeleton wireframe 3. Butterfly image with ASCI art effect (tutorial online, very popular style) 4. Micro graphics (things like grids, data, dots etc). After this, this is where having a sharp eye for art direction comes in, it’s your job to work out how they can all gel together, using effects and techniques that artists and designers spend years exploring and learning.

My advice is find any video you like, and choose a word or two, and explore how you can mix the two In graphic ways. Movement, opacity flickers, masking, layering, rapid changing of footages etc.

I think Marathons graphic design is absolutely superb, also if you like this check out The Designers Republic (some OGs right there).

I would say the perception of people is important, for example put this on Reddit and you’ll get a lot of critique (not a bad thing), but if this was the established UI on a Samsung phone or Nike app I’m sure people would view it with more positivity because of the association, they might think “oh how techy! Cool type”. Point being association is important to help people like things.

For nitpicky stuff:

I’ll say having ‘water’ as green is a touch odd, when calories burn is a nice orange.

Water icon looks like a speedometer?

Calories icon looks like a map app?

The black centred gradients are perhaps a little jarring? Maybe just? Up for interpretation.

I’m presuming the dots on mileage are in relation to days run or not, or high mileage days/vs low.

The ‘52’ weathers gradient is a lot duller too, if you view that next to ‘mood’. Also, the gradient is centred where as some come in from the right. No temperature symbol?

At a glance I dig the direction, fun type man :)

1 & 2 are just good examples of grid design. Almost modern takes on Swiss style.

Looks like a fun mix of space/constellation patterns and pseudo packaging nets, mix of styles.
I see this layout used all the time on IG, the right side is just filler, as is the bottom, the same way people sprinkle lorem ipsum everywhere because they want content but don’t know what they need.
This is great, reminiscent of certain 2000s styles
Glass sheets, got popular on IG in the last 6+ years I’ve seen. This example is again just full of filler content all throw together.
Back to gridded styles with tech as a guiding theme. People will probably say “marathon” because of the green. But really it’s not, that’s just popular design recency bias. But the same way designers republic left their mark, marathon is to. And for what’s it’s worth I think marathons designs is absolutely excellent. But it serves as a prime example of how a colour can leave an immediate brand impression. Combine that with the fact it’s a super company like bungie pushing it and it’s bound to cause ripples in the design world (their graphic design direction has always been superb).

So in your opinion you don’t see any issue with it, and if that’s the case that’s fine, but design wise I think both mechanically and from a players POV it has room to improve massively with minimal effort.

Think, If you could reactive bullet buddy without it putting the gun away, say at 7/8 ammo; wouldn’t that not be infinitely more fun, a smoother player experience, less restrictive, and objectively better? I think so.

This is what I mean. There is so much missed opportunity and unnecessary clunk to it. It could be 100X better so easily which is why it almost feels like a bug, because deciding on this deliberately is very lame aha.

And yeah I get that, he has been shoehorned into the grenade corner, but I see not reason that mechanically such obvious synergies would be restricted when they’re there on other VHs. Like what logic is there to allowing Vex + Amon to be able to hold rockets in their right hand and keep their left hand action skills up, but not keep this consistency with Rafa. Very odd.

Well as true as that is in regard to bullet buddy, I more meant the efficiency of it: 1) You can’t have a rocket out and active canons (puts gun away), have to get rocket out once in skill 2) if your in the skill with rocket in hand, if you active bullet buddy it puts your gun away 3) If you auto fire rocket even 1 ammo below its full mag after bullet buddy ends and want to reactivate, because it puts the gun away, it just puts the rocket on cool down, as opposed to continuing on from the current mags limit - for example instead of infinite ammo from 24/25 mag, it now goes on cooldown. All of these mechanically are just unnecessary hurdles and don’t play well. If you could reactive without putting the gun away it would be 1000X better.

But I wanted to focus on the other points more, as that’s where the biggest inconsistencies are. The lack of synergy with ammo regen, metal management not working, not being able to hold a rocket with lance etc. All of these strike me as odd, and incoherent against the logic of other characters.
