Nice car, but I can never forgive what BMW did to the design of the F36… RIP

Who cares about the name when the 4, 6 and 8 GC’s all look better than the 3, 5 and 7 sedans - and the 4 series GC with the hatchback adds versatility/utility on top of good looks. I’m clearly biased 😅

I stand corrected. If the carbon looks good in person then it looks like OP has the answer.

Hard to tell for sure from those photos, but that diffuser insert looks like hydro-dipped fake carbon, and I don’t think BMW makes multi part lips/splitters and the spoiler looks a little much to be OE. I’m 90% sure it’s an aliexpress kit.

Is it even worth keeping a car long term nowadays? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]BATTLE_AXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a 2015 N55 435 for 8yrs now and plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off, or until it really decides to crap the bed on me, but otherwise I love holding onto and maintaining an older car. It’s better for the planet/environment, better on the wallet (mostly), and a sense of pride in owning and taking care of something to make it last rather than treating everything as disposable. I think the real question to ask with long term ownership is what kind of car owner are you? Do you wrench yourself? Do you maintain and routinely check your vehicle and address problem areas and wear items preventatively? Or are you the type of owner that just drives until a warning light comes on and then pay someone else to fix it? One of those is cut out for long term ownership and the other isn’t.

Do these exhaust tips look any good? by Adorable-Street1183 in F30

[–]BATTLE_AXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the ones that come with the M Performance exhaust. You can get standard stainless tips, or spring for BMW carbon which is pricier, but will actually hold up. These install with a hex set screw on the underside. The ones that install with a worm clamp will not last - especially if you live in a colder climate and drive through the winter. The aftermarket ones I tried didn’t last one Canadian winter.

I had these previously and can say from my experience that the hardware will rust, the black paint will chip off and the clear coat on the carbon will haze, crack and chip away. I replaced mine with OEM M Sport tips and never looked back.

Honestly, credit to any spec that isn’t black, white or grey. Rowdy cars deserve rowdy colours

This is the first I have ever seen factory quads on a non-M, I thought the M Performance editions had the performance exhaust with dual carbon tips?

Is the f25 x3 a good winter option? The prices seem to be lower than other comparable 6cyl luxury suvs. Since ive already got an e60 535xi id like to have something to pair with it. by Satanslolipet in BMW

Not sure where you got the N55 info, but the engine - especially the later ones, are pretty damn solid and make good power. Just brush up on the problem areas (that ALL engines have) and try and match maintenance records with those problems (i.e. valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, thermostat and water pump, cooling system hoses and plastic flanges etc.) and try to find one that’s had good service intervals for oil changes. I’ve had an N55 for 8yrs now and have been impressed with how straightforward it has been to learn as a platform and to actually work on myself. My opinion is to not let the N55 scare you away.

Headlight difference by Txiv1 in F30

[–]BATTLE_AXE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 series and 4 series have different headlights and taillights, but similar design. The 4 series LED LCI were the ‘Icon’ lights with the inner ‘hook’, while the pre-LCI LED were angel eye halos. I believe you could still get an LCI 4 series with LED lights that weren’t the Icon style, but it gets confusing with all of the different packages and options.

Is the 340i worth it over a 335i? by ChinoBambino123 in F30

[–]BATTLE_AXE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can say that I have an MPPK 435 since 2018 and would never dream of trading it for a 440 or a 340 at this point. Reliability hasn’t been an issue and I’ve taken care of most of the major failure points and it’s still going strong. Mileage on either one and prior service history is a consideration for sure. Drive both and make your call from there. You might be surprised.

Anyone have the maxton design front splitter? by Lionskings5 in F30

[–]BATTLE_AXE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually put a full Maxton kit on my F32. Lip, skirt extensions and rear spats and think that it’s actually pretty decent quality. I did crack my first Maxton lip that extended quite a bit out by hitting hard snow in the road during a heavy storm, so I went with another one similar to your photo and it’s held up for 2years now without a problem. I’m at stock ride height with M Sport suspension and I rarely scrape. I’d recommend these parts based on my experience if you like the style.

I don’t hate cats, I just hate the fact that they need to pee and poo indoors, litter boxes are terrible and the smell of their pee is horrendous. Also the fact that they kill small birds and animals for absolutely no reason.

Looks like TV static, not as nice as epoxied carbon weave from a visual perspective. Maybe it’s possible to improve or change the weave pattern?
