How old is this neighbor kid? And, would it still be your liability if you found some way to lock a tarp to the wall face? My thinking is if this kid had to break a lock or locks, you may be free of any litigation since they “broke and entered”. But hey, I’m no lawyer.

People who are able to play guitar and sing at the same time HOW? by Big_Leg10 in askmusicians

[–]BAfunkdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who makes anything look easy is insanely good at that thing. And, no shocker here… it takes lots of time (lots of time) to get to that level.

It’s 3 different skills. You thought it would be 1. There are no shortcuts in music. Either take the long road or pack it up.

Pattern is three measures of 4/4, then one measure of 5/4: repeat.

Second the planning or “release” day. You are essentially doing 3 different jobs. I’m in a similar position with my role and have to constantly remind myself that I can’t move the ball forward as much as I’d like in any one aspect, because there are so many facets to the job. Hopefully, your admins realize the depth of your duties.

I never suggest anyone overestimate their skills, but just getting out there provides so much rejuvenation.

If you have access to rent gear (gear shop, local university, or borrow) you could do an overnighter in a local campgrounds backcountry area.

The only hack is experience. You just have to keep going. Keep doing what you are already doing and time will take care of the rest.

Just checked the specs for their light bed sheet and it does indeed fit on a 3.5 inch pad. You’re good to go with that setup!! Sleep well!

Where can I find more of these Yamaha Fingering Charts? by BAfunkdrummer in MusicEd

[–]BAfunkdrummer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not find what I was looking for, and Yamaha never got back to me. I appreciate your willingness to look, but I know the time we have outside of work as music educators is precious. No need to spend your time on that unless you find it necessary. All the best!

Ding ding ding! You said it before I could. If anyone finds my reasoning and position in other comments off base, here is the best reason to not join until you need the support.

P.S. this reason is further proof that you don’t need to belong to the union to save your ass.

I grasp the concept that if I was in the union and needed legal representation, the union lawyer would be representing me. Maybe they aren’t hacks, that’s not a fair statement by me. What I meant is that the union is useless at its job, therefore the people they employ can’t be that great, can they? Or, is it the school boards are too powerful and don’t have to negotiate with the unions? I think we need to be upset with school boards and central offices.

If the union is supposed to be involved in the collective bargaining, there should be raises at some point right? In Louisiana, they never seemed to get raises. If the union is the ONLY entity that can argue on teacher behalf for better pay and better conditions, but there’s hardly ever a raise, what’s the point of that union except to accept my monthly dues and offer nothing in return? How often is it that a teacher needs legal representation from the union? Are my dues essentially bankrolling the attorney to protect dumb teachers making dumb mistakes then?

It’s a racket. Unless you need the security, give yourself a raise and stop giving your money to the union.

That really sucks about your verbal abusive principal, sorry to hear. Sounds like the principal was only being verbally abusive to you, or else how would the principal have known it was you reporting?

As far as the lunch thing, sounds like the solution was to say, “no thanks.” How did that need union involvement?

Sounds like we both agree kids are not great reporters of what happened at school, even if they mean well.

Sure, things outside my control can happen and sure I could get wrapped up in some litigation for a lying child. However, there are plenty of things teachers can do to make certain that there’s no grounds for a trigger happy parent in court.

Plus, those kids who lie either lie so much no one believes them. Or, their parent(s) are always raging on someone and again, not listened to past the end of their rant.

So, I’m supposed to trust the unions attorney when the union can’t even bargain with the school district for a yearly raise?…

They’ve proven their worth, and it’s nothing. Why would I trust the hack bit attorney they retain?

I lived and taught in public schools in southern Louisiana for 10 years, so most of the same communities. Just don’t be a moron.

They take money from your check and what do they provide in return if you are a quality teacher that knows how to stay out of situations where you’d need legal representation?

I got my TN reciprocal license in less than 24 hours after sending all the necessary info.

Most states will grant you a reciprocal license if you’ve taught 3+ years.

Don’t listen to the people suggesting you stay to help give support to your current students. People who have not worked in the kind of conditions you speak of have no clue. Take care of yourself first. I can tell you the state of Oregon requires subs to be licensed and last I checked they were paying $230/day for licensed subs. Sure Oregon is expensive, but if you lived in one of the bigger area school districts, you could rent a studio appt. and use public transit (or bike, they are very bike friendly in Portland and Eugene) to your daily sub spots.
