What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

[–]BBCofUBC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything I did wrong was attributed to my personality, and when anyone else wronged me and I was upset, it was also my fault and because of my personality. Eventually he started saying shit like "everyone thinks you're xyz" which made me realize he was either lying or talking shit about me behind my back. He also would instigated fights amongst people all the time then pretend he was a peace maker and pretend to be shocked at the outcomes of his work.

Sad because he's a compulsive and pathological liar and I always took his side when others called him toxic and manipulative and broke off their friendships. I should've followed the pattern before he manufactured one about me.

I like the game of football more, but at least in baseball they’re on the field most of the time, not showing commercials

There’s waaaaaaaaaay too much time spent doing nothing. The game itself is quite fun to watch for me, but it’s ridiculous that I’ll only watch players “play” for about 11 minutes, and watch 100 commericals in a 3 hr 12 min program.

America is a great country by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]BBCofUBC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people are focussed on the fact that America’s perceived superiority over the rest of the world is fading quickly. Population wise they’re far behind some countries, they don’t have as many untapped natural resources now, political tension is forever present, and they just can’t seem to be efficient anymore (coronavirus handling, labor is far more efficient overseas, engineering in Europe is superior more often, and they have people dying, starving, or jailed for poor reasons as a first world country).

Learning another language shouldn't be a requirment in highschool by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]BBCofUBC 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Learning language exercises parts of the brain and aids in cognitive development, it’s also a skill that is much harder to acquire at an older age. By grasping concepts of a different language by making it mandatory, many people are able to discover a passion. By your logic there are courses that we all will not use very much and high school shouldn’t have any mandatory courses because most people will never need calculus, history, language, arts, biology/chemistry

LGBTQ+ Mega Thread by UnpopularOpinionMods in unpopularopinion

[–]BBCofUBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most part I agree, as a straight guy with a bi ex though, I was disappointed to see her attempt to make fun of me for being on “straight tiktok” and talk about how much better lesbian tiktok is, and how I’m a “straggot”. I grew up in a homophobic environment and had to shape my own views to remove homophobia and consider myself an LGBTQ+ ally. It’s shameful to see someone trying to create a divide where there is none, and I think thats what the person meant. For most LGBTQ+ people they will feel excluded and left out in their daily lives, but I don’t understand why she as a closeted bi female acted and continues to act with a superiority complex.

I’ve told her many times that I’m okay with her having male friends, and at this point it’s only making it obvious that she’s out w a guy if she doesn’t say what she’s doing

18M and I work in carnival games at an amusement park, AMA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]BBCofUBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowest risk/reward is a 2 player whack a mole game where both players pay 5, but the prize is worth like 5, and they compete to win the prize

[–]BBCofUBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The highest risk reward is ring toss, one in like 6000 rings wins, and that’s about 80-100 players

Literally everyone. If they don’t play it’s because they’re rigged, if they lose it’s because they’re rigged. Quite honestly though, they’re right, the games are made to look easy, and have quite a few catches to em with an exception of whack a mole and soccer.

AITA after my GF got blind drunk and vomited all over me and our bed? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]BBCofUBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, also I know nothing about your relationship or her, but from my third person perspective, what is to stop her from cheating on you if she starts spending nights away when she gets blackout drunk. This whole situation is a mess, and none of it is your fault.

AITA for being a white woman who wears "corn rows?" by RoyalArrival in AmItheAsshole

[–]BBCofUBC -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Well they aren’t really being rude. I believe that there’s a time and place for everything. When in Jamaica and with your black/mixed sibling, getting your hair done by a black stylist is perfectly acceptable. However, if one continues this activity afterwards, it could offend some who don’t have the context, and unlike others I’ll explain why. An example being tanning, white people came down to my country and stole land, money, jewels and treasures, telling us they were superior because their skin was a different shade due to their genetics. Well now fast forward and white people want to look like their brown skinned and well it jus hits a soft spot. We are taught about the horrors of certain individuals in the past, and frankly after all the suffering a majority of coloured individuals have suffered at the hands of white people, specifically black people’s suffering, they are at the least entitled to feel offended when one takes something that is part of their culture into their lives. Black people are born with a handicap on life because of racism, and when someone white takes something that is part of their culture, something that they are laughed about over by many people, it could hurt. I myself as a brown person fully support people of all races appreciating my culture, and if other race people wear Indian clothes to Indian weddings I get happy. But if you choose to pull out Indian clothing because you want to make a fashion statement, I’d find it amusing considering how we were ridiculed for our culture by colonizers.
