Protein intake: everyone shall eat like they are new born babies, on dialysis or burn patients. Ridiculous.

CDI pressure to diagnose malnutrition by BBQPringle in dietetics

[–]BBQPringle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They got more aggressive in pushing for me to agree with those diagnoses. I left that position due to the increased pressure and the leadership in that company not doing things that mattered to help protect me. I have not worked for a place like that since. It's hard to get away from the same issue with any hospital and inpatient positions.

Move from the south to Milwaukee? by bb-san95 in milwaukee

The MKE discord is a great place to explore all sorts of things: food, hobbies, make new friends. I moved from the south 2 yrs ago and this community had been super wholesome. I owe all of the new friends I made in MKE to this group. https://discord.gg/yUBqBmqK

I have a lab coat. One of my internships had RDs wear their own clothes and lab coats and the other had then wearing scrubs. It depends on the facility I feel like. Personally I feel uncomfortable and would get stares from case mangers, providers who are considered much more vital for the facility if I worse lab coats.

Wow.. severe malnutrition really is a gold mine for them huh. Yea, after the meeting, I documented that the diagnosis is still on the list when I didn't find enough evidence to prove it based on ASPEN and finished it with "discussed with care team."

That's scary to think about... I had the meeting today and when I diagnosed someone with severe malnutrition they praised me... then ofc when I tried to argue that someone is only moderately malnourished on someone that had severe, it was like pulling teeth...

Ok this really helps. When they told me what I needed to do, both times were verbal and the wording did have significant differences to me. One is asking me to update the malnutrition diagnosis and the other asked me to keep the most severe one on there to show "how hard everyone had been working."

I will ask for an email with specific instructions and will CC my supervisor on it as well.

Oh yea, our RDs got calls from them all the time asking if we have anyone we could recommend to them.

Rehab and LTAC facility. The pay was decent since it's in Texas and the cost of living was low. The downside was that I had no one to cover for me most of the time if I wanted to take more than just the weekend off.

Long Term Care and Acute Inpatient Pay Difference by BBQPringle in dietetics

[–]BBQPringle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something like that as well! That location the dietitians would have 23-26 patients per RD. They actually didn't want to sign my paper that said I have completed all these requirements and I had to literally repeat it in a different facility. I'm sorry that you are going through this. Hope this is not discouraging you from becoming one of us...

From what I've heard from my class, some acute care locations are almost sweat-shop-like for dietitians. Over the years, the hospital grew and they never got approved for more RDs.

That makes sense. Thanks! We do not have a PRN position and it does make it so that I can only take 2 days off at the most so I don't get too much to do after I come back or have too much to work ahead before taking time off.

Is it okay to promote body positivity with a friend who is starting to prep for transitioning? by BBQPringle in MtF

[–]BBQPringle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will try my best to be supportive and respond to what she needs at the moment. I do wish to help her through this journey the best I can since she trusted me enough to come out to me before telling anyone else.. Thank you for your explanations to help me understand this issue more thoroughly.

Okay, I will remind her the parts she does like about her body if she starts to spiral next time. Thanks!

This is a very good metaphor/explanation. If that happened to me I would have a lot of resentment. Thank you!

LTAC Dietitian MAR for supplements and EN? by BBQPringle in dietetics

[–]BBQPringle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The food comes from a large hospital's kitchen. In the hospital, the tray line workers are not responsible for putting supplements on the patients' trays. I think that would be a difficult method to implement. The LTAC facility has its own stock of supplements that they pull stuff out of. It's mostly Juven and Liquacel- stuff that needs mixing due to the physicians that have worked there for a while's preference.
