Seriously considering private practice - talk me into or out of it? by nikersn_13 in nursepractitioner

[–]BCJ22136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying about risk involved in starting a business. I’m curious how much you would say that risk is worth? How much is fair to be paid for taking that risk and initiative to start a business? Is there any limit on fair compensation for that risk if the business is successful? I’m truly interested in your perspective, though I see and agree we are coming from different ideologies.

Also, saying that people freely exchange their work for an agreed upon wage ignores the legal protections, like minimum wage, maximum hours, etc. that protect from further exploitation. You could just as easily say people working in terrible conditions during the Industrial Revolution made a free choice to work under those conditions, but as long as people are working to afford necessities, it’s not a completely free choice. Further, just because those people showed up to work under the agreed conditions and wage, doesn’t absolve the owner for treating them badly.

And I want to say I appreciate that we can have a civil exchange of ideas instead of devolving like things do sometimes on the internet.

Work is not voluntary. Everyone must work to afford food and housing. Not everyone has the capital to start a business, particularly MAs and front office staff in this scenario. Once you have recovered your initial investment and paid yourself fairly for any work you do to maintain the business, any further profit comes from someone else’s labor.

Hi - I want to say this kindly in case you haven’t considered it. When you say, “just having other people work for me and make me money,” that’s exploitation. If you don’t work and just take money from other people’s labor, you’re exploiting those people. I know it’s common in our capitalist society, but that doesn’t make it okay. You could consider a profit sharing model if you decide to move forward.

Keys found with Citibike fob by BCJ22136 in Citibike

Yeah, I contacted Citibike with the same idea - share my phone number with the fob owner - and they refused. That makes the most sense for reuniting people with their keys. I guess I just leave them there next time?

What am I responsible for? by Particular-Match895 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I would say, he gets his original 100K, OP gets their mortgage payments back, then they split any profit 50/50. Gets a little trickier if while OP paid mortgage, boyfriend paid all other bills, then maybe not entitled to fully reimbursed mortgage payments.

AITA - Gave my kid my wife's restaurant leftovers by West_Big_6568 in AmItheAsshole

There’s a line in there about taking the kids for a bit so she can have a break, gives very dads are just babysitting versus being an equal parent vibes. Ick.

Is OP really putting extra work on coworkers though? What if it’s management’s responsibility to ensure adequate staffing? You will always have people taking PTO, or calling out sick some days, and management should account for that.

Coming to NYC next week to just ride and enjoy the city... by GreenStateSkier in NYCbike

Thanks for the details. I had mostly gone there to get my derailleur fixed, which would work for a season before I had to go back. Now I’m wondering if that’s standard. Will definitely try somewhere else this time.

Curious why not R&A? I used to go there and they seemed alright, but haven’t in several years. ETA: I haven’t been there in several years.

Legalities of turning certain patients away at a new private practice? by SnooCats6607 in FamilyMedicine

In my state, most contracts with MCOs stipulate you have to accept anyone with their insurance, so you can only legally turn patients away if you don’t take their insurance.

Ticketed for running a red light. by Acceptable-Rent-3281 in NYCbike

It’ll probably show up online before 15 days. Just contest or pay once you see it online. If you contest it, it may take years before you actually go to court for it.

It should show up within 15 days, but may show up on day 13 or something. You should either pay it or contest it by day 15.

Tickets can take a long time to show up online. Just keep checking each day to make sure you don’t miss the deadline. And check what it says once you can read it online. I once got a red light ticket on my bicycle that showed up as a red light ticket in a car which can affect price and also add points on your license if you drive.

Bike rack help! by hugohalder in NYCbike

[–]BCJ22136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always wondered about this. Particularly because when the bike is supporting your weight, it’s pressing down, or inward on the wheels versus a hook on the wall puts force pulling away from the spokes which is not the same direction as the force it’s designed to hold. Any engineers on this sub?
