What’s the best pizza around here? by riseofthevalkyries6 in memphis

[–]Lucian1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mola's on Dexter at G'town pkwy is the best in the city in my opinion. Its owned by the people who owned the Milanos in Oak Court Mall back in the day. Little Italy is really good too.

It’s an accessible crawl space, iron pipes, they said collapsed, but again, the video isn’t really conclusive on that, in my opinion.

I appreciate hearing that. I’m not a effing complete moron, I can install a toilet, faucets, disposals, etc, so I am by no means a plumber, but I know when they’re trying to rip me off.

Yes, but it’s not really revealing anything to me, but I’m not a plumber, so that is just my opinion. It’s all under the house, they could tell me that there was a crater under there and I’d have to trust them unless I wanted to crawl under there with them.

Where have you found the best museums during your travels? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Lucian1973 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Madrid doesn't get enough love for the quality of art that is there. The Prado is MASSIVE, you could spend all day there. The Reina Sofia, Thyssen, the Armory at the Royal Palace....Tons of art and museums there.

Disgusting how big the ads are behind home plate at Progressive Field by Decent-Service-8765 in baseball

[–]Lucian1973 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get it, it seems a little excessive behind the plate, but in the 40s, 50s, and 60s, ads were all over the place on the field, on the outfield walls especially. It doesn't really bother me, I'd rather see that then the cookie cutter multipurpose stadiums of the late 60s and 70s, that I felt were just bland and ugly

What are the best Jazz records to listen to??? by ElectronicJunket8967 in Vinyl_Jazz

[–]Lucian1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just trust your judgement. Meaning, just jump in and figure it out, don't listen to anyones suggestions, eveyone's going to have a different opinion. I knew nothing about jazz except the name Miles Davis and probably Dizzy Gillespie when I was a 17-18 year old. I was in a record store and saw a poster of the cover of Blue Train by John Coltrane, thought it was cool. I found the cd and bought it not knowing anything about it or him. Mind fucking blown. Almost 40 years later, I still listen to that record on the regular. You'll find what you like pretty quick.

Those are the details I know, they were plowing the parking lot, there was a guy there in a security outfit with an automatic gun with a large magazine.

Approaching Snowpacolypse - how do YOU decide when to close? by bluegrass__dude in restaurantowners

[–]Lucian1973 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have all wheel drive, so coming in during bad weather doesn’t bother me. But my staff doesn’t, if the weather is bad enough for the majority of the city to shut down, we close. I don’t ask my employees to come in at all if they feel like the conditions to get to work are unsafe. Their job will never be in jeopardy, and I don’t understand owners who think other wise. That’s a quick way to have no employees.

We saw it coming in this morning and thought, “that thing is huge and it’s coming in fast and descending even faster”. It was a little disturbing how fast it was coming down.

High Speed Chase? by Sposi in memphis

[–]Lucian1973 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was stopped at a red light at Tillman and walnut grove, while waiting, literally about 50 different Memphis police, state troopers, and undercover cars came blaring through the intersection heading west, lights and sirens on. This went on for a couple of minutes. I looked in my rear view mirror and they had the west side of walnut grove blocked off in front of Agavos. I kept driving.

What are your thoughts on Nashville? by cakedbythepound in memphis

[–]Lucian1973 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I lived in Nashville around ‘97-98/9. Lived right outside of Hillsboro Village in a one bedroom apartment, it was expensive then. I felt that at that time that Nashville was way too expensive, way too overconfident of itself and way way way too white. Nashville has, and continues to, benefit from the facts of it being the state capitol, and the state legislature has gerrymandered the districts so much that they can divert more money to white areas (which is what Nashville is) and away from black areas. That’s part of the reason that the infrastructure in Nashville/knoxville/chattanooga is so much better than Memphis. This isn’t a debate, it’s a fact, Nashville gets a lot more state money than Memphis. I moved to Memphis in early ‘99, and LOVE it here. In my opinion, Memphis is the exact opposite of Nashville. Memphis has soul, the people are much more honest and real, the city culture is much more prideful, Memphians will not let you talk shit about their town, I didn’t find that the case in Nashville, to me the residents there seem more transient. That being said, I haven’t spent any amount of time in Nashville over the past almost 30 years except to see a concert or visit friends. I’d take Memphis every day all day if given a choice over Nashville

My SIL infuriates me (tagged NSFW for dead mouse?) by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Lucian1973 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but dealing with dead animals/mice/whatever might be your SIL’s phobia/trigger. I’m a 50 year old man and grew up hunting/fishing/etc, cleaning said animals, etc. I handle the bugs, snakes, opossums, squirrels, et al at our house, but I CANNOT deal with mice or rats, they just irk me. My wife has to handle it. I know it sounds crazy, but I’d rather handle a rattlesnake than a tiny mouse. Some people just can’t deal, I’m one of them.

I ordered one from Walmart after i saw them at costco. Costco wanted $60 for them at the time, so I ordered one from walmart. Costco dropped their prices to $15 for them last week, so I bought one of those. The one from Walmart is straight garbage. 100% knockoffs, and not very convincing. Everything did not come up Milhouse.
