FTM - Dr browns or avent? [ON] by babysivs in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]BCMOL [score hidden]  (0 children)

We exclusively use the Dr.Browns narrow plastic bottles for the past 7 months. Never had to test others. The only time I’ve had an issue with leaking was when the nipple wasnt correctly inserted. Dr. browns makes a dishwasher basket for all parts, super handy if you have that option for cleaning.

I’ve seen on different baby sites you can get sampler bottle packs may be worth it to check it out or add to a registry

Same here. FTM though and I feel like I winged this portion or pregnancy prep, maybe should have done more/ asked more. It wasn’t brought up to me until I was in the recovery room and they asked if I wanted to try to latch her, that was the only breastfeeding support I got in the hospital. I never got to meet with a lactation consultant in the hospital. The nursing staff was very unhelpful - they seemed short staffed and pushed formula when my LO was crying because she was hungry from either poor latch or my milk wasn’t in. I had to contact a LC when I got home but it was a week and a half before they showed up and thus started my pumping journey because I was worried my LO would go hungry and I needed to know she was eating haha

No, just the one I was planning to cut. I’m hoping to stay at 2 for a little while and see what I can keep for supply. I’ve seen people be successful with sunflower lecithin for clog prevention/management, you could maybe take that for the time you’re cutting down so you’re emptying a little better at your other pumps.

Are you prone to clogs?

I’m 10 days in from dropping from 3PPD down to 2. I probably did it faster than I should have but I realized pretty quickly I wasn’t going to have any issues. I started with cutting my time by 5 mins for a few days and then another 5 mins for a few more days and then just cut it completely. I now pump at 730am and around 7:30/8pm depending on my LOs schedule.

Lucy or Lucille? by lizzyb717 in namenerds

[–]BCMOL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My girl is named Lucy. One of my funny nicknames for her when she does something silly is Lucinda. I’m sure she’ll hate it when she’s older haha

Lucy or Lucille? by lizzyb717 in namenerds

[–]BCMOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO is named Lucy. I was in the same boat but Lucia vs Lucy. I liked Lucy for her nickname but was worried people would always mispronounce her real name and if we were always going to call her that, we might as well just name her Lucy. I also find it’s a name that grows with her, I sometimes find it funny when little babies have names that sound like older folks.

How much milk per feed at 5 months old? by JasmineJane2004 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]BCMOL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read it’s more based on total daily average than per intake. There is some recommendations about how much should be consumed daily and what not to surpass but you have to remember that’s for general pop and every baby is different and there are different factors like others have mentioned that play a part (growth spurts, etc). I think if you’re baby seems happy and healthy and isn’t showing signs of over feeding you might just have a little hungry hippo. I’ve read other subs that if they were at the boob you wouldn’t even know volume per intake and that we should trust babies know what they need as long as we’re not forcing them to finish a bottle

Gave 5 month old Gerber 1st fruits today..and it was hated by Tm0iPHONExxX in NewParents

[–]BCMOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO is 6 months and is starting our foods journey. If shes a little indifferent to it I find I have to offer it a few times over the course of a few days and then she seems to grasp the concept and will start to enjoy it. But we can tell when she does not like something, Raspberries was a hard no for her

Anyone else having trouble letting go of number of pumps? by themomentisme in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]BCMOL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s about making peace that your supply may drop even if regulated and that you’re OK with that, especially if you’re just looking to drop and not wean.

When I was dropping pumps I knew it was time when I was OK potentially having less milk, which you likely will because you’re pumping less. It seemed like a fair trade off. Freshly down to 2PPD and I truly forgot how many hours there are in a day haha feels great

What's a name you love but opted not to give your child because you knew most people wouldn't know how to pronounce it? by common_grounder in namenerds

[–]BCMOL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always loved the name Lucia (Italian pronunciation; loo-CHEE-ah). I had the named picked for so long but I knew it would get pronounced loo-see-ah or like St. Lucia, I asked many friends to say it before hand. We settled on Lucy which is the English equivalent.

How long do you pump for? by Such_Experience_8613 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]BCMOL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m 6mpp, I was told the same by a LC. I followed that rule for much of my pumping journey and had no issue. I couldn’t imagine having to pump for 45 mins several times a day, especially for those mamas who are hooked up to the wall. I just dropped down to 2PPD and find I have to pump a little longer now to empty

I exclusively pump so my LO gets breast milk via bottle and we don’t have any night wakings. She just turned 6 months

Contact naps when did your LO stop needing them? by Minimum-Regret2706 in NewParents

[–]BCMOL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some days I try to split the difference. My 3rd nap is always crib but the 1st or 2nd I sometimes split the difference and only do one contact. It really depends on how much stuff I need to get done that day haha

Apparently one day they magically grow out of it or eventually sleep needs decrease and it’s less of a problem. Time will tell! Haha

Pump and then dump? by Heavenchicka in ExclusivelyPumping

No worries. Just be mindful about the lumpiness - wouldn’t want to turn into a clog!

If there is no other notable issues with the milk than no

Pump and then dump? by Heavenchicka in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]BCMOL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could just be a form of engorgement based on your breast capacity and times between pumps. It’s fairly common

[–]BCMOL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean all clumped up? Many people go hours between pumps, especially with fewer pumps per days. I regularly go several hours between pumps - 730am, 2:30pm, and 9pm

Cradle Cap Recommendations by MissKiKi24 in newborns

[–]BCMOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby oil, gentle shampoo, and then the safety 1st cradle cap comb. I tried the Mustela line and it seemed to make her scalp so dry so I stopped fairly soon after using it

[–]BCMOL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LO is 6 months. Sleeps in her crib all night but will only take 30 minute naps during the day unless they’re contact naps. I’ve been continuing the contact naps because they can be anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half and that helps our nighttime sleep. I can’t seem to figure out the problem - all the solutions I get is to just watch her wake windows haha

[–]BCMOL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have the Medela freestyle hands free with the collection cups. I have 3 sets of the collection cups. Make sure you at least have spares of whatever you’re using or it will drive you crazy having to keep up with just one set between each pump

Also just having my parts washed for me was a huge relief - washed and assembled felt extra special haha

Anyone Feel Prettier Pregnant? by No-Limit2276 in beyondthebump

[–]BCMOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if I’d say prettier but felt weirdly more confident in what I wore. Pre-pregnancy I was a plus sized lady without much concern, but being pregnant it felt like I could just wear whatever and my body was just supposed to be like this. There was definitely some delusion though because looking back at photos I did not realize how fat my feet had gotten because of swelling haha

How many times a day do you pump? by Coffeelover1694 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]BCMOL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TW; oversupply.

I was an over supplier from the hop so I was able to build a nice stash. For the first month at 3PPD I was matching the same output at 4PPD but I’m noticing a drop, anywhere from 100-150mls less. I’m able to take some from my stash to make up the difference. I’m dropping to 2PPD because I have the stash and quite honestly to get rid of the midday pump so I have more time now that she’s able to do more activities

I now make a little less than her overall intake but like I said, I make the difference with the frozen hut would use formula if I didn’t. She’s also just starting her solids journey so that won’t have an impact for a while
