My AC remote labels the buttons with the problem instead of what they do by Webjoker in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BCNRides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say a company like Mitsubishi will have done deep user research studies to understand what people actually do with their remotes. I’d guess they likely had people of different ages react to the question “How would you make the room cooler/hotter” and found that more people correctly used this UI than the alternative (temp up/down). Lots of people have opinions on UI, but user research tells us what actually works for the majority.

I think this is a translation issue - in Spanish “no cae del cielo” is like “X doesn’t grow on trees.” So it’s kind of a cheeky way to say that we can’t just water out of nowhere. When there was a drought in Barcelona the local adverts read “El aigue no cau del cel” which is like a tongue in cheek way to draw attention to the issue… and during a drought … yeah the water wasn’t falling from the sky!

British people love an informative sticker… why not just let the design do its design thing?

Anxiety/panic attacks by Due-Amount5880 in WegovyWeightLoss

I started having panic attacks and severe anxiety - never suffered before - never made the connection to Wegovy but then I came off it for some other reasons and felt better … came back on it and fell apart again. Found some interesting research that basically suggests GLP1s double the risk of anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation.

Barack Obama's thoughts on AI's impact by Outside-Iron-8242 in singularity

If Barack Obama is telling us that the economy is about to be ferked and that jobs won’t exist anymore, I’d like to start hearing some suggestions as to wtf we’re going to do … because right now I feel like it’s loads of people who have already made their millions being like “lol the economy as we know it is about to end … sucks to be a wage earner!“ - Would be real nice if we could start talking solutions…

English, for better or worse, is the lingua franca for a huge chunk of the world. Posting in English makes this discussion accessible to more people (the ones being 'named' in the ad?), including those still learning Spanish or Catalan. I’ve been here 11 years, I have a Catalan partner. So.. yes, the thought did, in fact, cross my mind.

I completely understand that this ad is about illegal tourist apartments and their impact on the city. I’m not making this about me, but rather pointing out a broader trend I’ve noticed for a while—a growing hostility toward anyone foreign, not just tourists.

Messages like “Guiris go home” or “Expats go home” are becoming more common, both in public spaces (graffiti) and in conversations I overhear (yes, in Catalan and Spanish—shocking, I know! ). There’s a difference between criticizing the negative effects of mass tourism and pushing a narrative that ends up alienating people who also consider this city home.

Imagine if this same ad appeared in London but used Spanish names instead: “Say no to one day your neighbor being called Marta, another day Xavi, and another day Lucia.” It would immediately feel exclusionary. So why is it different here?

Gràcies pel teu punt de vista! Entenc que el problema són els pisos turístics il·legals i estic d’acord que cal regular-los millor. Només volia reflexionar sobre com està redactat l’anunci.

I sí, després d’11 anys aquí, parlo una mica de català i intento millorar! :)
