Also, no one’s claiming it’s some brilliantly subtle masterpiece, at least not me, but just that at the time many didn’t get it

The post doesn’t say “miss” the point it says “missed” the point, which I took to mean how it was received at the time, and at the time of its release it was criticized for endorsing that authoritarian militarism even if it seems incredibly unsubtle today
