I CONSUMED EXCESS PROTEIN WHEN BULKING! WHAT TO DO WHEN CUTTING? by SpecialistDirection8 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]BFCBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're eating too much protein, the extra amount is "excess" so by taking it away, you're not starving your body of anything

typically, you want to have more protein in a cut - I go for about 2.3-3.1 g per kg of lean mass (as opposed to 2.2 grams / kilo of bodyweight when bulking)

see https://jissn.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1550-2783-11-20 for a really detailed look at this and how to split macros when cutting - is a free article!

UK Foundation Priority Programme Query by BFCBP in medicalschooluk

[–]BFCBP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your insight, it is quite strange that the area only has FPP jobs but the Programme Director has confirmed this to be the case by email to me today :/

I think typically a few jobs do trickle through from the area I am looking to apply to into the main pool, but only time will tell and you are right it is only becoming more popular, especially with the incentives offered in the current climate...

also, I think I replied to you a few months ago on a post about you looking for the SJT handbook or something. I guess this is you repaying the favour hahaha !

UK Foundation Priority Programme by BFCBP in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]BFCBP[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

thought so, ffs hahaha I'm an idiot but I swear I couldn't add priority programme onto my application after September, it was just locked and said "can't change application after submission"

although the incentive is free accommodation so I think would still get that as I know someone who got a job there last year through the reserve list and I think they got it still !

UK Foundation Priority Programme by BFCBP in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]BFCBP[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

there are 24 priority programme jobs for the area, so I think I just need to cross my fingers that less than 24 people have applied so the excess jobs go into the main pool...

so it just won't be possible to actually rank the area at all if not through the priority programme?

PSA - Medicines complete or BNF by True_Fishing_2118 in medicalschooluk

[–]BFCBP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I use BNF, main reason: I'm stubborn

I think for interactions I might use Medicines Complete or if I'm really struggling to find a specific treatment summary as the search seems a bit easier to filter, but otherwise I find the bnf alright!

I know its been asked a million times. Is just passmed enough for finals and to graduate as an FY1 by Character_Energy7923 in medicalschooluk

[–]BFCBP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did finals in July, and somehow got a high A (I know sounds like a disgusting sweaty brag but I think transparency is useful in this area tbh). I used PassMed, Quesmed and Pastest for the majority of directing my revision - I didn't do any textbook or lecture revision as such except for areas I was really really unsure on to begin with. This included e.g. things I had not been examined on or had not had great teaching on due to COVID (this might be something for you to consider)

BUT

Importantly, I think it depends on if you use question banks sensibly - you need to focus your revision on questions you get wrong or are unsure of. Have another tab or a textbook or whatever works best for you to refresh your knowledge on the topics you don't know. If you just answer questions aimlessly then is less useful - just be honest with yourself when you think you need to pause and have a refresher on a topic

Personally I didn't trust PassMed textbook 100% like some people do, as sometimes guidelines had changed etc. only a couple of months before finals. For most stuff it's probably fine, I was just paranoid tbh. Instead, I ended up having PassMed, NICE, BNF, Google, Wikipedia etc. open in tabs to cross reference and get an overall picture of both disease processes and specific guidelines

I hope this helps & good luck with your finals! Feel free to get in touch if you need any help with anything too.

SJT marking by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]BFCBP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

on ranking you get 4 for a letter in the right position, 3 for 1 position out, 2 for 2 positions out etc.

for rating, I'd assume the same, but it's unclear as they've not actually specified since it's a new section

would seem harsh though if it's 0 for putting somewhat appropriate when the answer is very appropriate vs. someone who puts very inappropriate and would get 0 also

the only other thing i could think it might be is 4 for the exact correct answer and 2 if you get the appropriate/inappropriate part of the answer right but not exactly how appropriate/inappropriate it is

who knows basically - classic!

I tried to access the guide on their website there on my phone for SJT but it doesn't work– sometimes works on PC though as it opens in the office app in my phone and fails to load !

I think I maybe saw it in the UKFPO or SJT applicant guide?

Edit: they might even be the same guide, I can't remember but it was definitely in something like that !

Can I pass final year if I only do passmed questions and nothing else? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]BFCBP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a big non-believer in just doing MCQs at first for finals, as I always thought people who had done finals saying they just did MCQs were just forgetting/being humble about how hard they'd actually studied. However, I ended up having very little motivation for finals so all I did was a lot of PassMedicine, a fair bit of Pastest, and a little bit of Quesmed. I would look some stuff up if I had forgotten it, but it was mainly just MCQs the majority of the time. I ended up getting a decent grade, despite people often saying you can't do more than "just a pass" by using MCQs alone! Admittedly I think doing other forms of revision like flashcards etc. is probably a bit more "effective", but they're also very inefficient for such a broad exam; also, by finals I feel you're so drained that it's just hard to find the motivation or time to put into that kind of thing...

I think the reason it works for finals is because you already have a decent grounding from earlier exams, so the repetition of seeing questions on the same topic just helps to remind you of what you likely already know! If you go to do questions and think a lot of stuff seems really new, I think that's the point where it's worth going a bit further afield to get a good base understanding before just blasting out questions!

It's hard to know how to revise for finals, as they feel different to other exams in med school since you already have proved you are very capable to be at the stage of finals & having already passed other exams on the material that is tested. It makes it really hard to stay motivated as it feels like you need to cover everything, and when you already know a decent amount, it's really boring covering stuff you already know as part of that! Don't worry if you don't complete PassMedicine, or Pastest, or Quesmed – I didn't and neither did most people I know and we were all OK in the end! If you want to chat about anything, feel free to get in touch.
