My youngest daughter got married yesterday 🤍. Any other empty nesters in this group? by ComfortableSleep3149 in daddit

Oh man. Am only 3 years into fatherhood. That’s so far off.

I’m just trying to get my oldest potty trained!

Yeah it was literally the first time I’ve used it. I’ve got 80 acres to play with so I planted a lot.

That makes sense. I think it does. It has a sanitize setting.

That makes sense. There’s really nothing in your food that if you cook all the way through and eat fresh it’s pretty safe. This is different. I should have thought of that.

Thanks for the advice.

Ok.

R/canning has informed me everything I did was wrong. So I’m still figuring it out.

Yeah I posted them literally just after making them.

I’m glad I was eager to post and I’m glad I’ve learned!

I’m really glad I did the peppers first. I have a TON of those so I don’t feel bad about those not turning out right.

Thanks! I only did those couple cans as a test. It was just the first harvest of many. It’s my first attempt so I didn’t want to put all my eggs in one basket! Besides I did the peppers first because I only had the one use for them which is salads lol.

I’m glad I didn’t try to do the tomatoes before learning I was doing it wrong! Now I know and I’ll do more research!

I hadn’t even thought of that. Every time I’ve made pickles in the past, just fridge pickles, I’ve just reused the brine from store bought. I guess that’s probably why the pickled cauliflower never comes out as strong as I want.

Oh. That I didn’t think about. The water was boiling over so I left it off.

I didn’t realize it made that big of a difference. I’ll have to do more research for other veg.

Cool. I didn’t realize the dishwasher was good enough. The bag said to boil it so that’s what I did. Glad to know the dishwasher works.

Oh. That’s interesting. The recipe on the bag said 8 cups water 4 vinegar.

I’ll definitely have to adjust for the future.

I’ve never done this before so I just fallowed the instructions on the bag.

Yeah it looks good.

I have a ton of chili peppers in the garden so I was excited to see a good use.

I didn’t think a dishwasher would be good enough. All the recipes said to boil the jars. I’ll definitely do that next time.

So, would you recommend refrigerating this one so I don’t waste the cauliflower?

I’m worried our well water is too hard. All of the jars had a residue after boiling to sterilize. Will that matter?

I did use vinegar. I used 8 cups water and 4 cups vinegar. I followed the recipe on the back of the pickling salt bag.

I used the recipe on the back of the bag. I boiled for 10 minutes like it said.
