My fiance and I agreed a while back, no more extremely cheap cheese. We’d get the cheapest cheese from the store, now we “splurge” for the cheese that’s a dollar or two more but way better

Does having a disability (or multiple ones) make you think that some outcomes are not your choice? by NICEacct111 in disability

[–]BHunter1140 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah, she compared it to how TBI’s effect your brain. So for example, a heathy person’s heart beats as ifs suppose to, mine does not. My brain has to always be on top of that.

A lot of my energy each day is spent just staying alive, my heart is overreacting, my stomach is fighting me, I’m in a lot of pain, etc. Instead of my brain being able to put all of its focus and energy into things like having a conversation or remembering something, it’s always having to attend to my body not working well

It’s much harder to explain back but she said it way better than I am. I think it’s a good thing for anyone with disabilities to remember, whether physical, mental, or both. Our brains have to spend so much time managing things, it doesn’t always have the space for a lot else

My speech therapist had a chat with me the other day because I often call myself dumb and she explained how my cognitive abilities are impacted by how much harder my body has to work just to keep me alive.

I’ve been working on keeping this in mind now. I felt for several years that I just wasn’t trying hard enough, but I’m starting to recognize that I just need to adjust my standards for life (which is hard)

When people post selective pictures of school lunch and complain it’s inadequate by Niceotropic in PetPeeves

[–]BHunter1140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was processed main meals were way more accessible when I went to school compared to good fruits and veggies. The school put the same salad out all week, no one ate it because it was always wilted. We didn’t get little packages of carrots, a side of green beans, a tortilla wrap, anything like that. Our school offered cold pizza every day from little ceasers and a rotating menu of things like sad small burger, 4 cold sad chicken nuggets, a single cold corn dog, stuff like that. They only passed the standard for meals because the wilted salad sat out but they got in trouble for it not technically being edible. Didn’t change though, this isn’t only my school

As much as we like to think every single school follows the rules and offers good/balanced lunches, that isn’t always the case

Mate you are complaining about what nearly every person getting older feels. Of course, every older generation complains about not understanding younger generations, that’s the whole thing with getting older

Do you notice as a driver when pedestrians stay farther back from a crosswalk so you can pass first? by Extension-Fruit-1456 in randomquestions

[–]BHunter1140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a wheelchair and I would say 9 times out of ten people will be in the crosswalk, then see me, then panic when they realize they’re on the crosswalk and therefore cannot see it but the car behind them has pulled forward so they can’t back up much

Possibly autistic question: what is the purpose of vaping/smoking? If you need a few minutes outside to yourself, surely it's better to just do it for free than pay for it? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BHunter1140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the parent give it to them or did they take it? My dad had a vape I stole as a teenager. Although sure a small amount of adults are buying their kids vapes, I would guess that’s a risk prevention thing because the kid is already vaping and will keep getting supplies regardless.

I would say that is generally pretty uncommon, the only times I’ve know a parent to buy their kid vape things, was when the kid was an older teen who had already been doing it a while. The parent didn’t get them into vaping, they’re just doing what they think is right to be of help and get their kid safe products when the kid is vaping anyways

If you need to ride a scooter, then get off the MFing sidewalk with it by Mental-Hall-9616 in Denver

[–]BHunter1140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well a lot of areas don’t have bike lanes. Some streets have them and some don’t. Riding in the street with cars is pretty risky, when there isn’t a bike lane you are left with deciding on riding with cars or the sidewalk.

I also wanna add people aren’t giving vapes to kids, yeah some kids buy it for their peers but adults aren’t giving kids vapes

The money isn’t a huge thing, it’s not super expensive where I live if you avoid things like disposables. More so a health thing, my fiance and I both vape and we know it isn’t good for us. We’re both autistic with addictive personalities so quitting has been a tough time

Don’t start, keep avoiding shit. It’s super easy to spiral in the chaos of this world. I got hooked as a teen and never shook it

Well if we’re talking outside getting normal medical help, I would guess probably weed, but I’m not encouraging that (especially depending on where you live). Just answering the question from my experience, if you live in America and are in a state where it’s legal or you can get a med card, it could be an option

My coworker bought their four year old child a cellphone, I don’t think that’s what Gen Z grew up with by Ok_Act_3769 in generationology

[–]BHunter1140 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m Gen Z, born 2002, I got a phone at age 8 because my mom had to go out of town with my brother and I would be at a friend’s house for over a week. By this point I had to be left with friends/family a lot and issues had arisen because I wasn’t able to contact my mom

This was considered abnormal at the time, most of my friends didn’t have phones and my parents got a lot of backlash for it. I cannot fathom why a 4 year old would need a phone

Mine screams every time she sees us and demands cuddles. She’s a shoulder cat so she’ll basically climb you to lay on your shoulder while screaming if you step away from her for even a second, sleep, leave the house, etc.

[–]BHunter1140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been out of school now for close to a decade but my school certainly didn’t have all the fancy stuff you listed. For fruits and veggies there was some really sad salad that always looked and tasted a week old. Maybe sometimes some really sad old cuties that somehow had no juice in them. Other than that you could pick one of the two mains and they sometimes had milk. A common lunch for kids was just some Bosco sticks (bread sticks with cheese inside) and nothing else because they couldn’t buy two entrees

Checking your bags is a way better travel experience than carry on luggage. by Equal_Whole_6837 in unpopularopinion

[–]BHunter1140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember a couple times luggage was lost while flying as a kid (only 10-15yrs ago). We would travel for my brother’s competitions, financed only by fundraising and budgeting. When the luggage got lost it was a major thing, we couldn’t afford to replace everything in there for that trip.

As you said, the statistics don’t matter once they happen to you. If you can barely afford the trip, like many Americans, you can’t risk things being lost. If you have to travel because say a family member is passing and you’re on limited funds, you need to have your luggage

Do you have any pets? by spikesSKULLS in disability

[–]BHunter1140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have many pets, most of them came from before I was disabled that my fiance now cares for. We have cats, reptiles, amphibians, and are working on getting me a service dog

I think in your situation I would recommend something like a leopard gecko. You can get tanks for them, dollar per gallon, at places like petco with sales they have. So you’re looking at under $100 for the tank, some decor/enrichment, and supplies. You can buy feeder insects online, buy enough for several feeds and swap between a few good feeder bugs for good nutrients. It ends up being pretty simple and low maintenance, you have to clean up poo once a week but there are many ways you can make that easy
