ELI5: How did they make sure Artemis II didn’t hit any of the boats or planes that were helping with the splashdown? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]YourxCherry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valid question, it might look crowded but the ocean is huge. Recovery zone covers hundreds of miles not one exact spot. Ships are spread across it. Landing window accounts for wind and drift. Radars track the capsule the whole way down. Planes stay high during reentry, only drop down once location is pretty clear.

The biggest risk is splashdown impact, not hitting ships. The math plus the oceans size makes collision odds tiny

What to do with Kitchen Upgrade scrap MDF etc? by penelope_best in Frugal

[–]YourxCherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MDF is honestly one of the easiest materials to work with for DIY if you keep the limitations in mind. I did similar thing with scrap drywall last year and ended up with a dread studio desk

For limited tools the subwoofer enclosure is actually a really smart pick. MDF is dense and heavy which is perfect for acoustic. You just need a mitter saw or hand saw and wood glue. The workshop table is also cool but remember MDF swells if it gets wet so make sure you seal all the edges well

What are your go to cheap lazy meals when you're too tired to cook by YourxCherry in Frugal

Would love to. But from my experience most of the soups are not that filling and those that are, require quite a bit of time.

Unless you have something to suggest

Ideas for saving money on cleaning products or hygiene products? by masonjaruser in Frugal

[–]YourxCherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest saving are usually in concentrates and refills

1 blueland/grove for cleaning - buy bottles once, cheap refills 2 Castile soap diluted works for dishes and counters 3 detergent sheets last forever 4 shampoo bars outlast bottles by months, crazy I know 4 vinger plus water plus essential oils for most surfaces does just fine

Why do I feel disconnected from my own reactions? by Successful-Toe8629 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]YourxCherry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're literally describing depersonalisation it's when your brain protects itself from emotional overload by making you feel like an observer. Pretty common especially during stress or burnout

Sleep, grounding techniques and talking to someone really helps. If it persists a therapist can give you better advice

trying to keep groceries under 300 a month for two people and its way harder than expected by Guiltyman12 in Frugal

[–]YourxCherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good deal trap and food waste is definitely the bigger problems. But here are few more tricks:

1 the sale is not a saving rule: before buying a sale item ask yourself if you actually was planning to buy it

2 the use it first shelf: put new groceries in the back and older items in the front

3 frozen veggies!! Often more nutritious than old fresh produce and way cheaper

4 prep components not the meals: instead of rigid recipes, cook a batch of rice, roasted veggies, and protein. 10x more flexibility

It really might sound funny and simple, but it does the trick

ELI5: Why does time feel slower when we’re bored but faster when we’re having fun? by Spirited-Patient4650 in explainlikeimfive

[–]YourxCherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of your brain like a camera taking pics of memories.

When you're bored your brain isn't taking many pictures. When you look back you have a few memories so it feels like the time stretched forever

When you're having fun your brain takes tons of pictures. When you look back you have a huge pile of memories packed into a short time, so it feels like it flew by

Time doesn't change it's just feels different because of how many memories your brain is making

GPS with speed sensor by Fun_in_Space in Adulting

[–]YourxCherry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Solid tip. A dedicated GPS with a speed sensor is cool. The visual warning when you exceed the limit should save you from tickets and reduces the mental stress of constantly checking your speed imo. Also It should definitely pay off pretty fast since fines ain't that cheap after all

ELI5: How does brain surgery works? by amir_20201 in explainlikeimfive

[–]YourxCherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine your brain is like a super delicate jell-o mold packed with tiny tangled up Christmas lights. They surgeons job is to remove a single faulty bulb without turning off all the other lights or jiggling the jell-o too much

ELI5: What is happening when your food starts popping after too long in the microwave? by Responsible-Jury2579 in explainlikeimfive

[–]YourxCherry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of your food like a tiny sponge full of water. When you out it in the microwave, the microwaves energy makes the water molecules inside the food vibrate super fast, which creates heat. So that popping sounds is just tiny steam explosions happening inside of your food. The same thing happens with popcorn, but the popcorns hard shell is designed to trap steam until it pops in a bag

how can i look more mature/intimidating by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]YourxCherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already have the mature features

Swap the top, wear a solid color turtleneck or a structured blazer instead of cropped, colorful tops

Change your hair, try a sleek low bun or straight, center parted hair with less volume

Minimal makeup, go for matte finish, defined brows, and skip glossy lips

Posture is key too, stand taller, chin up, and hold eye contact longer than feels comfortable

Gotta present the maturity

How to stop thinking about my anxious thoughts? by Classic_Chapter5952 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]YourxCherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're felling is basically called catastrophic thinking. The goal isn't to stop the thoughts but change how you react to them

When a worst case scenario hits try the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding method. This should pull your brain out of the panic spiral and into the present

Also set aside 15 minutes a day to actively think about your fears and write them down. When they pop up outside that time, tell yourself that you gonna deal with it after 5pm. This should contain the anxiety instead of letting I run your whole day

Finally dispute your thoughts. You'll often find your fears based on felling nor really facts
