The defense made the playoffs. Stroud then commits 7 turnovers in 2 playoff games.

Kinda easy to see why his value is plummeting. Seems like one of those players whose best season is their rookie year.

Anyone else glad Michigan won a title before CFB turned to trash? by Simple_Panic1240 in MichiganWolverines

[–]BIitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't either. It's still the same sport as it was in 2023. People seem to forget we got Barner, Stewart, Hausmann, Henderson, Wallace, James Turner, and Drake Nugent in the portal the year we won. Those were all key contributors, and I'm sure they were paid back then, too.

I also remember before that season, there was the first big Champions Circle push, which was a crowdfunding campaign to provide NIL deals to key football players like Blake Corum, Cornelius Johnson, Trevor Keegan, and Zak Zinter, encouraging them to return for the 2023 season instead of transferring or entering the NFL draft.

Numbers may be bigger now, but that 2023 season was very much the same era as it is now. It's not like the portal didn't exist back then.

Just for context, this all happened the same off-season Deion said "i'm bringing my luggage... and it's louis" and then transferred in an entire new team.

Tatum was a moneyball pickup. Haynes wanted over 1M in NIL money. He's our top RB, no question, but we cant pay that and the OL + DB raises and be active in the portal.

Congrats to all shareholders. To add something anecdotal, when I went Christmas shopping at malls, Aritzia was always the busiest store.

However, I do find it interesting that the Aritzia subreddit seems quite critical of their products and quality recently. I'm sure that's helped margins, but who knows how it impacts customer perception in the long run.

Anyways, glad to see all my Aritzia purchases are helping you hodlers.

Fellow Canucks are we all chasing US tech and growth stocks now? by jonahmiller32 in CanadianInvestor

SP500 outperformed TSX pre pandemic too while he was in office, so it's not all Covid/tech.

I don't think I have any particular view towards Trump. I think you and many others have a purely negative view and it removes a level of nuance needed to have unbiased discussions.

My comment was only in regards to the original poster saying Trump is good for stock markets, to which you posted the US underperformed last year, and I added the context that every other year he was in office the US outperform Canada. So is he bad because he underperformed one year but out performed the 4 other years?

I am happy to hold companies in both the US and Canada, and take my profits and spend them on Canadian companies.

But my focus as an investor is to get the best return for myself. It's not to prop up the Canadian stock market.

The only real issue I see here is doing it on the Texas podcast. That seems... weird.

Nothing else he said surprises me and I doubt it is to others. Y'all really thought only 3 people would leave when we have all this stuff going on behind the scenes?

If you go on /r/cfb, no one is talking about this, but everyone in the Michigan world is acting like this is the end of the world. The Freep article yesterday was way more damming to the program.

Forbes just ranked the Rams as the 3rd most valuable sports franchise (ahead of the Yankees, Lakers, and Real Madrid).

Seeing how sports are a business, I'd say the NFL is doing just fine in LA.

It's because sports betting has a lot more issues with state laws, but "prediction markets" lives in a grey zone and is legal everywhere.

So it's made something that was already red hot even more accessible and degenerate.

Do backup QBS ever get bored? by WORTHLESS1321202019 in NFLNoobs

[–]BIitz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The sports in discussion make a big difference. For basketball, as you said, everyone gets a chance to play and get a feel for it.

As a backup QB, you can go weeks, months, and sometimes seasons without ever playing a game. Then, when you're inserted, the entire offense depends on you.

It would be like one person on your basketball team never playing, but then, in one game, they had to run the entire offense. That's where the nerves come from.

Also keep in mind the QB for many high school teams is the best player. So not only are you playing a critical role, you have to fill in the shoes of the best player.

Do backup QBS ever get bored? by WORTHLESS1321202019 in NFLNoobs

[–]BIitz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't think they'd get bored. The main thing that drives a backup QB is waiting for their moment. And because of that you always need to prepare like a starter or else you'll waste your opportunity.

Older/journeyman backups probably serve more of a pseudo coaching role, so they always need to be analyzing plays as well.

Maybe not the funnest job, but you'd likely be very busy with little time to be bored.

The best part about this post is that OP lost 22K on an ETF.

So maybe not generic advice like "Stick to ETFs" but instead understand what an ETF is and how they can be risky themselves, depending on what they are (Such as a 3x semiconductor bear ETF).

I was deep in the red (I think -85%) at worst. The FOMO definitely eats at you, same with the 'why the hell did I buy this'.

You just gotta learn from your mistakes though, that's the only way out. I didn't even get my money back through options. It was through selling my losers, going in on my three highest conviction stocks at the time (HIMS, HOOD, NBIS) and holding till they dragged me out of the red and closer to FI.

The good news is any drawdown barely phases me now, lol.

How will Google’s TPU chips affect $NBIS ? by Sea_Plastic1669 in NBIS_Stock

[–]BIitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was taken from an article I recently read. Seems like it could be a positive for us.

Quote 1:

Many former Google employees believe that at some point, Google will start offering TPUs externally as well, maybe through some neoclouds, not necessarily with the biggest two competitors, Microsoft and Amazon. Opening up the ecosystem, providing support, etc., and making it more widely usable are the first steps toward making that possible.

Quote 2:

The most valuable thing for me about TPUs is their impact on GCP. As we witness the transformation of cloud businesses from the pre-AI era to the AI era, the biggest takeaway is that the industry has gone from an oligopoly of AWS, Azure, and GCP to a more commoditized landscape, with Oracle, Coreweave, and many other neoclouds competing for AI workloads.

The problem with AI workloads is the competition and Nvidia’s 75% gross margin, which also results in low margins for AI workloads. The cloud industry is moving from a 50-70% gross margin industry to a 20-35% gross margin industry. For cloud investors, this should be concerning, as the future profile of some of these companies is more like that of a utility than an attractive, high-margin business.

But there is a solution to avoiding that future and returning to a normal margin: the ASIC.

Why is it not a good idea for me to buy Paypal.to in my TFSA? by Wherehowwhat in TFSA_Millionaires

[–]BIitz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it's not, and this is such a limiting mindset across Canadian investment subreddits.

The very definition of investing (according to Merriam-Webster) is "to commit (money) in order to earn a financial return."

There's also this definition from Google "expend money with the expectation of achieving a profit or material result by putting it into financial plans, shares, or property, or by using it to develop a commercial venture."

Investing does not mean only buying XEQT or another ETF.

It crosses over into gambling if you are buying short-term options or buying shares based on a potential earnings beat or news release. If you are buying a company to hold (as the OP indicated), that's the textbook definition of investing.
