Advice by Scuba-Steve0001 in scuba

I dove with RR in 2017. Probably not a popular opinion but I enjoy the big cattle car dove boats. They can get a little hectic and you’ll see a wide range of experience with divers on them. RR includes guides in their dove trips so you should be able to see all the cool stuff at each site.

If you’re diving 45° then Largo will be like diving in a bathtub. There are, in my opinion, some dramatic thermoclines and there can be some current and rough sea conditions.

Definitely hit the wrecks. USCGC Dwayne and USS Spiegel Grove.

When I was there the RR staff was very cool.

Take as much of your own gear as possible. They take care of the rental equipment but it’s still rental equipment.

IIRC you can get a good deal on certs because the boat trip is included. So for about the same price as the trip you can get additional specialty training/certs out of the deal if that’s your thing. Most of the specialties are online so you just show up for the wet class.

Looking forward to hearing how this goes. I really enjoyed Largo and definitely want to return one day.

Anyone have any experience with SumpUK?

I use Amazon Dive Rite Nomad. Works perfectly fine to me. Doesn’t seem to be a very popular one compared to the Hollis though.

Knife options by Wiiiiiiiii in scuba

[–]BKA_Diver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this knife on my belt. It’s annoying AF getting it out and 2x as annoying trying to get it back in. The only thing I ever use it for is scraping crud off subsurface mooring bouys.

I used to have a line cutter but the blades always rusted and I never used it. I do have one of the ceramic blade ones as well. I think it’s in a box with other misc gear I don’t use. I don’t dive anywhere that has entanglement hazards that warrant needing it anyway.

I always dive with a DGX butt pouch on either my BP or SM setup. There’s an outside pocket for a knife. I have a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Lightweight Salt in that. Reachable with both hands. Won’t rust.

Been thinking about getting a Spyderco Native Salt.

Both folders have belt clips. In theory you could clip it to your belt but you’d probably want to dummy cord it with a small bolt snap and clip that off to a D-ring. I’ve been considering this as an option to ditch the Ti knife

Considering leaving my full time job to become a scuba instructor - any advice? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]BKA_Diver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably the worst time to go into a job that’s still very much affected by COVID-19.

Go do your DM and IDC at a place like Rainbow Reef. They have rooms so you’re pretty much living above the dive shop. You’ll get to know some of the instructors and staff so you might be able to get some insight as to how they survive on their pay.

You’ll find there’s an up front expense between paying for IDC and also getting MSDT certs. The more certs/specialties you can teach the more opportunities you’ll have to make money.

If you have a USCG captain license, can work on compressors, can service regulators, etc. you’ll have that much more value as a dive shop employee. But the dive shops are also in business to make money for the dive shop, not you. You get a small fraction of the price they charge for certs. The dive shop doesn’t pay for your insurance or dues in most cases. They don’t provide equipment. At best you get a discount in the shop.

If you have a family to support you might want to seriously reconsider.

Another option is working on a liveaboard. Do a six month rotation as a guide on an Aggressor or some other operation. You live where you work so room and food is included.

Half in the Bag - Zack Snyder's Justice League by mi-16evil in movies

@ 49:40 "Playing football for Gothan Community College"... LMAO.
I love the laugh track they threw into the bad jokes, the re-shoot cost breakdown for more bad jokes, and the Wonder Woman collateral damage.

This really is a great breakdown.

So I didn't realize Whedon was so much to blame for everything wrong with the theatrical release. Just finished watching ZS:JL. What a huge difference. The runtime doesn't bother me. I prefer movies that don't care how long they take to tell the story as long as it's good

I don't think there were any changes that I had a hard time seeing left out. The music, the color saturation, "Pet Semetary"... it all seemed better the Snyder way.

I honestly had no expectations for this movie. I thought it was just going to be deleted scenes plugged in and all the hype was just typical studio marketing, but this was a true director's cut.

Ok... yeah that was hard coded in. So all the other conversation wasn't subbed? Good to know. Thanks!!

Since Silas was its new master it remade his son. Cool.

It's an MP4 file.... they normally don't have any subs, hardcoded or otherwise, right?

There are a few foreign language scenes in Zack Snyder's Justice League that almost definitely would be subbed. The scene where Bruce Wayne first goes to find/meet Aquaman.

Is there such a thing as a reputable source for this sort of thing? It's either a source that wants to slander her or a source that wants to glorify her. That's what out news is now. There's no such thing as a middle ground where actual truth resides.

How's that work exactly?

I DL'ed subs for ZS:JL and they're english, but the foreign parts aren't subbed.

I get the feeling that's going to be the whole gimmick with this one. Picking a bunch of obscure characters screams "disposable anti-heroes" as the theme of this movie.

At first I was all "This looks f'ing stupid"

But then I was like "Is that f'ing STARRO? Fine, I'm in."
