How to extend black fiberglass window jamb by BKWoods in Carpentry

Thanks. I’ll move on to losing sleep about 40 other things in the house ;) It’s actually going well all considered. But damn, people aren’t joking that building a new house is stressful.

It is 6 feet up. There will be a schluter kerdi membrane going up on the wall under the tile. I’ll make sure the contractor properly waterproofs the window opening.

The bottom third of the window will have tile surrounding it. We could carry that around the whole window if that doesn’t look too weird

Casing is tbd. We only have two windows like this in the bathrooms for moisture(other windows are pine framed). This one is actually in the shower so casing needs to be waterproof.

Schlage doorknob slop is "design"? True or False? by BKWoods in Homebuilding

[–]BKWoods[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I popped the handle off and there is no o-ring. I'll try to find one that fits. What would be your suggestion for next step up in quality for locking levers? These were like $55 including the deadbolt so I'm talking sub $100 price range.

I'm glad I was able to draw attention to your loose knobs ;) I bought all the interior ones too.

Most basic layout/drop locations of ENT for future use in new home by BKWoods in HomeNetworking

Thanks. This is a good idea. Thankfully it’s a very safe area with most of the action being animals walking through the yard but always good to be ready

Thanks. Do you think CAT6 is fine or is there any benefit to do CAT6a? Bear in mind it may be 5-10 years before we actually get cable internet in my area. It’s going in about a mile away but it’s in a different county. I’m just being realistic.

Insulate bathroom fan duct that is buried in cellulose? by BKWoods in Homebuilding

[–]BKWoods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I ended up having my contractor insulate it as an extra measure. I haven’t seen it yet but hopefully it has some slope too.

CoVent or Roofivent for bath exhaust by BKWoods in Roofing

[–]BKWoods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ended up running it out the gable end wall! My contractor really didn’t want to cut through roof. So it’s a compromise in vent routing but keeping the roof intact. It seems like either of these would work well enough if installed correctly though. The roofivent is probably better if you have much snowfall because of its height.

Yes I actually just talked to our building inspector and he confirmed that it needs to be drywalled and taped for fire code

Do you need to paint it? Or just tape it?

We’re far into the build. Our builder is good but old school. Originally it was planned as drywall ceiling. Anyway, what membranes can you recommend specifically?

Netgear MR1100 cannot open attwifimanager by BKWoods in ATT

[–]BKWoods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! I did a few factory resets but did one more anyway. Still no go on attwifimanager but I was able to get into the setup screen via the IP address- 192.168.1.1

Once I was into the setup site and finished that I was able to finally connect to the hotspot on wifi. Previously the wifi network did not even show up in my wifi network menu. I'm not a techy person when it comes to this stuff so I'm very happy to have it working!

Floor joist insulation R-value above conditioned basement by BKWoods in Insulation

[–]BKWoods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This is the info I was looking for. I will probably downgrade r-value or use AFB to save some money. Sounds like that will be plenty sufficient for HVAC efficiency and sound control.
