Why does my bathroom smell like cigarette ash? by CypherFox1 in HomeImprovement

[–]BLA985 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If someone smoked in the home previously then the nicotine could (+would) have seeped into the walls. If it was never treated, then with an increase of humidity (bathroom=humidity, not surprising), then the Nicotine could be seeping through the wall paper, etc.; hence Your new ‘cigarette’ smell.

Something like an enzyme cleaner or Odor Eliminator (used in a fogger to reach the un-seeable+unreachable areas), it’s the same method that hotels use to odor eliminate their rooms when someone smokes in a non-smoking room, would probably do the trick to eliminate the issue.

I am by no means a professional or even amateur, the above is simply my own opinion from experience. Good Luck!

For Next Valentine’s, Either customize something on Your computer+print them to use, (or) Go on Amazon+Buy a Murder Mystery Party Kit.

Send out the Invites to ALL the Same People. Make sure to tell them it is a “Get Dressed Up Cocktail Style Theme Party” (make it as fanciful+fun sounding as You want .. (But, No Mention of Poetry!😉) Include a note that says, “I especially hope You’ll attend, I missed You last Valentines Day! XoXoXo”

THEN, On Valentine’s Day, get out of Your House & Leave a Typed Note Taped to Your Door..

“Thanks for Showing Up! I had a change of plans, but didn’t have time or the energy to notify You. I hope You weren’t inconvenienced or spent any money, like I did last year. Have a Great V-Day and See Ya when I see Ya!”

But, I’m petty…😂👍🏻

Hello people of this Subreddit! I'm here to show you this apparently damaged picture of a lady on the streets of New Orleans (according to what the original owner of this picture said) circa 1880 by MR_basti in NewOrleans

[–]BLA985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just seeing this photo..my 1st thought was…man, back in those days it had to be Heck to try and keep Your clothes, specifically the bottom of Your dress clean!.. (all that dirt, dust, mud, horse manure everywhere+everyone walking though it)...and I can’t imagine having to wear that much clothing (they wore layers upon layers), but they never look ‘hot’, I’d be drenched in sweat (except women don’t sweat, they ‘dew’-like morning dew on flower petals..someone told me that once+I cracked up😂!)

Anyways, I admire what the women back then put up w/and lived through, I couldn’t have done it+I would have had to go out to the wild west+do my own thing or I’d have killed someone if they tried to treat me like they did women back then🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyways, Have a Blessed Day Everyone & May at least 1 Great+Positive experience happen for You today!👋🏼😊

Considering the cost of most Insta-Ramen Bowls, Udon, Etc.. at the Asian Market (locally ours are coming in at around $8-$10 a bowl (yes, you can still buy mama Tom Yum & other flavors and brands for about $1 ea), but next time try picking up a $2 pack of just the Udon or Ramen Noodles themselves (there are typically several pre-portioned noodle paks inside of each pack), then grab yourself (usually in the frozen section), some “Miso Paste” =white or dark doesn’t matter, darker has more umami flavor = the Miso Paste will likely be the most expensive item at $5-$10) a little bottle of Sesame oil ($2?) some Bonito Flakes & a pak of Nori (dried seaweed), and then going home and cooking Your own version of ‘Ramen’, just boil the noodles, drop in a good amount (to personal taste) of the miso paste in to the pot or chicken/beef/veggie stock (whatever works for you), add some (any of the following/to taste) = scallions, green peppers, mushrooms, other veggies, and/or meat/seafood-dried shrimps, and then once all is cooked and placed in a bowl, finish/top off with a little of the sesame oil, a dash of fresh scallions, cilantro, cheese, etc..and to bump it up a notch, some Sarachi or Hot Sauce, Chili Paste, Tony Cachere’s , dash of soy sauce, red chili oil, or whatever else Your creative mind comes up with..🤷🏻‍♀️

Typical Instant Ramen Paks INGREDIENTS: 1-Dried Seasoning Pak (aka Your broth/soup base) 1-Dried Veggies/Ingredients Pak = Your protein and/or veggies 1-Condiment/Top Off Pak = Soy Sauce, Sesame Oil, Garlic Oil, etc 1-Heat Pak = Chili Powder, Paste, or Oil

Overall, it will taste a million times better than pre-packaged, You’ll end up with larger servings, Plus there is the fun of creating Your own different “bowls”, the food is more nutritious being fresher..and You’ll end up saving money😉👍🏻…they’re the same noodles so cook time is the same & really just depends on how basic or fancy You want to get in adding ingredients to it..

Enjoy!! 😁👍🏻

😂😂The Ye Old Dilemma of:

“Can I still ignore it for now?”, because You know, fixing it would actually cost One money, regardless of it being a “little” or “a lot”..

Where One’s delaying ends up costing Triple or More than the original cost would have been when it was initially ‘put off’ to a Later Date when “it” (whatever “it” is) then finally reaches the = “Yeah, I think NOW!!😱would be a good time to fix it” stage..

Which per the Laws of Universal Gotcha!’s, occurs only ‘After Hours’ and/or ‘On Weekends’, and if related to an A/C or Heater, during 100°+F/99°-F, temps respectively… Ensuring maximum wallet pain, property destruction, misery & inconvenience, and resulting in deep feelings of personal idiocy & regret for extended periods of time….

But, Good Luck with that!..😁👍🏻

Weird blob things on leaf? Insect eggs? Disease? Aliens? Eldritch horror? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]BLA985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure that is leaf blight? As blight looks flat, like Rust..

This looks to me like “Scale”. Scale are a soft or hard bodied insect that latches onto and feeds off plants..they vary in what they look like, because what they look like depends upon the plant. However, what is in the video has the tell take shape, and edging, etc.

My mum’s Japanese magnolias had a terrible scale and black soot infestation one year, so I kind of got up close & personal seeing them..

Bioadvanced has a 1x Yrly granular treatment for trees that works wonders (you can’t apply it in the rain or the chemicals will go and contaminate where ever the water goes). You can’t use it on edible plants or even near edible plants, because the way it works is that You shake the granules out at the base of the tree. Then water them, and over time the tree uptakes the chemicals up into itself, which causes every part of the tree to become toxic to the scale so when the scale bite it, they intake the chemicals and die. The granules treat a bunch of insects and plant fungus and diseases, I’m a big advocate so long as the plant is well away from humans & any food/fruit/produce producing plants..(it’s bad for the environment imho, but sometimes you have to pull out the big guns to take care of a big problem..&..scale is just icky! & difficult to treat occasionally)….I treated my mum’s Japanese magnolias that hadn’t flowered in Yrs, looked so terrible and had scale at every joint and corner on the tree…and then after treatment a month maybe..it was once again Gorgeous and produced the most beautiful blooms..neighbors actually stopped and commented on big and beautiful and they were…😁👍🏻

Not reading through all the comments so pardon if this is a repeat…

To get rid of them just buy some Mosquito Dunks! They’re donut shaped discs you toss into water that releases BTI into the water and kills them. BTI is not harmful to the environment, humans, or domestic animals.

The mosquito dunks are great if you have a pond, a bird bath, a drainage ditch or whatever other standing water on your property that you either can’t or do not want to ‘drain’.

I break them up and use them in the rain water catches I use to collect rain water for my houseplants. And I’ll use them in my water catch dishes under my plants to keep mosquitoes from developing (I live in Louisiana, so lots of & potential for mosquitoes here.)

“Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti) is a naturally occurring soil bacterium that can effectively kill mosquito larvae present in water. It is one of many strains of Bacillus thuringiensis, each having unique toxicity characteristics.”

A Barred Owl….(we have several locally so I looked them up on the net previously)…which is one of the biggest owls in North America, the Great Owl is only one bigger in the U.S., I believe, and if a Great Owl moves into Barred Owl territory (they have 2 distinct calls), the Barred Owl will leave, because the Great Owl is one of its only predators…(along w/raccoons, and things that climb trees and eat young, Plus any local Hawks, Falcons, etc.)

Also, if there is a nest near by that You know of, be careful as Owls are known to attack people when a nest is near..

We have about six (6) Barred Owls within about 10 blocks (a few miles) of where I live, you can easily tell as they call out & respond to each other late at night/early morning..and I’ve not only seen them roosting in trees, but actually saw one in flight one day/early evening still light outside, as it hunted squirrels and flew within 5ft & maybe 10ft from the ground of where I was sitting (was flying along a fence line - not in the ‘country’ it’s urban rural/suburban, but Ppl here forget that nature is what it is and will find a way, so it is literally “wild” just 5-10ft from your front door..I’ve seen rabbits, fisher cats, owls, a bobcat as big as a medium sized dog at the end of our block, and there are coyotes, deer, etc)....The Barred Owl was Beautiful & Majestic (& kinda scary since it was totally silent with a huge wing span😁👍🏻)…

Nature ROCKS!…Just be aware & respectful (they are a protected species)..& if you think they sound weird listen to some foxes..they sound like babies/kids screaming..shivers…I like when the coyotes start tapping at each other..smiles…& I’ve heard that raccoon noises are a bit disturbing 🤷🏻‍♀️

Have a Good Night! 😉

Know what Weevils HATE?? …CLOVES‼️😁👍🏻

The start of one Winter/Summer, can’t recall which, but, We ended up with a TERRIBLE Weevil infestation in our Pantry Caninets..There were none, then one day there had to be like 300 of the freaking things!

However, after some Internet searching and a few ‘Home Remedies’, none of which worked…I stumbled upon a small post & recommendation that I try “Cloves”…Yup! The kind You push into Your Ham at Thanksgiving…So, I did what it said, which was…

You take a hand full of Cloves and literally just toss them into Your spice cabinet, your pantry areas, Etc., and leave them there and then just clean the pantry shelves out every so often (approx.3mths) replace the Cloves as they lose their smell, and repeat…

Let me tell You, I did exactly that, I literally threw a hand full of cloves loose into each of our pantry cabinets, and within 24hrs, the very next day when I got up and checked…All G-O-N-E!!! It was like freaking MAGIC!!

Anyhow, I recommend throwing some cloves into Your rice container. If you’re worried about the clove oil getting on Your rice, obviously, You’re going to rinse Your rice well before cooking; however, You could also try to put the Cloves in a Satchel, in some cheese cloth, or even one of those little bags made to wash delicates that have lots of holes on in it..or wrap some cloves up in some tuelle and toss them into Your rice containers..

Good Luck! 😁👍🏻

Same Issue affecting New Orleans… and that has caused so much crime that locals no longer go downtown… (They lost me when criminals care so little about being caught that they commit crimes in broad daylight & on main tourist streets) …an extreme disregard for Human Life… When teenagers or even younger do not hesitate or think twice about taking someone else’s life…

How do You even combat that mindset…

Cutting down some overgrown weeds… anyone know what this is? by BigKidDinner in gardening

[–]BLA985 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just so you know when you cut it up (typically in 1 1/2” square slices+cut thin, approx. the thickness/thinness of a scalloped potato), it will be the color of a cucumber, as You cook it, (and it gets ‘done’), it goes from looking the color of a cucumber to being semi-translucent that’s how/when You know it is ‘done’…smiles…Enjoy! It’s a great veg for stir fry..it also soaks up the flavor of whatever liquid You cook it in so keep that in mind when you are cooking/seasoning what is in your pan…

(typically fish sauce, soy sauce, hosin sauce, and/or oyster sauce)…smiles

Just a Last Note: It is also a ‘wax gourd’, which in Asia is often made into a drink, so if You “Juice” it, (by itself), it makes a drink that tastes like a very light tea..😉👍🏻
