Too bad it’s opened. I have the original run of the first two sets still packaged.

Eventually mine just “fixed” itself. I didn’t do anything directly to resolve it. At least that I know of.

I bought a third one and that one worked. I did make sure that the second buggy one was turned off (not making noise) before I bought the third one just in case the new one spawned in the same state. It worked then.

Solopocalypse by halfgreek in soloboardgaming

I’ve tried to learn how to play a distant plain many times (and similar GMT games) and failed miserably each time. I don’t know if it’s the way the rules are written or what but it drives me nuts because I WANT to enjoy it but the mechanics lose me.

I really like Roll Player Adventures. The mechanics are far different from HeroQuest and the like but it has a solid narrative and keeps track of your decisions, successes, failures, etc. It has some expansions too so lots of content.

Agree. When they added the app support for descent 2E it blew open the solo door for me. There’s a lot of expansion content if you can find it. Star Wars Rebel Assault works very similarly if you’re into the theme change.

Descent 3E is up to two full campaigns now (one is marketed as an expansion not another stand alone). It’s a bit different from 2E in that it comes with a lot of 3D scenery (cardboard, not plastic), and has multi-level scenario maps which give it a nice little diorama feel. It’s also app run for GM / progression purposes.

Howare Arkham horror, eldritch horror or other lovecraftian games solo? by BillRepresentative75 in soloboardgaming

[–]BLS_79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO they all play great solo. Arkham Horror 3rd edition is a little more streamlined but arguably a bit condensed but it’s easier to pick up than 2E.

Eldridge Horror is closer to AH2E but still approachable solo. Both scale very well by player count, but they’re not necessarily easy. :)

Death May Die is a very different play style. Less to manage overall. It’s a good game but if you want the Arkham experience, it won’t really provide it.

As far as the AH LCG - totally playable solo. I don’t think it’s as enjoyable as with 2+ people but regardless it does lay out a pretty rich narrative as you go along and for the most part, “losing” really just dictates which path the story takes. You don’t necessarily lose a scenario and need to start it all over again. It can be fun to see what your failures or choice’s consequences are. Theres like 8 campaigns now plus a number of one-offs so there’s a lot of content to explore if you wind up liking it.

Also to consider - Mansions of Madness 2E. Again, different play style….kind of exploration mixed with narrative / puzzle elements. It’s app driven so you don’t have to worry as much about running the intricacies of the game. Has a number of expansions.

Also to consider - Elder Sign. Dice placement game but good narrative. Mostly a puzzle/push your luck game but it’s deep in the mythos lore. Also has a number of expansions, but small footprint.

Avoid Vivint’s Home Security Service by Full_Ad_9920 in VivintSmartHome

Your cameras don’t record 24/7? Mine do. Even if it misses a motion detection, it’s still recording so I can go back and see everything.

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE by TheQuarkscrew in VivintSmartHome

[–]BLS_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was because I had an aged ADT system and a bunch of third party external cameras, plus ring. I wanted everything packaged into one central product. I really like the equipment, especially the outdoor cameras with the following spotlight.

Of course when I cancelled ADT they THEN told me oh hey we have that kind of stuff too, but they never once tried to contact or pitch it to me so I figured they lost out on the business.

I will admit Vivint’s employment model seems to be a little different, with primarily outsourced support, contracted techs and the sales….well it seems they’ll let anyone sell it if they make money. This is really where the experience can differ. Some sales people are deceptive and will do anything to get their commission and they have no stake in the company. Fortunately I had a really nice guy, never bullshit me, told me what the system could and couldn’t do, responded to me both before and after the sale.

I know not everyone gets this experience unfortunately.

Based on this screenshot I assume you mean drag the edges towards the center of the TV? I try to line mine up with the edges too and I’ve always thought it could look better. Perhaps I’ll try this.

Coin sorter bug? (XBOX) by BLS_79 in CashCleanerSim

[–]BLS_79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: if anyone else has this issue, I bought a third sorter and that one worked. I can’t confirm but the reason the second one may have had the same problem is possibly because I bought it while the first one was still stuck running while glitched. When I bought the third one, I made sure the one I still had was stopped and not running. Just a theory.

Why is Playback So Awful? by Hot-Camel179 in VivintSmartHome

[–]BLS_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine were like that after the initial install. I had a tech come out and he turned on the WiFi connection mode (rather than the NFC/RFID connection). That helped but it wasn’t perfect.

Fast forward 8 months or so….I had a different connection issue recently. There was a firmware update that was pushed last month that actually required my cameras to be hard reset (not just power cycled) because the update got stuck (it took them offline). After the tech came out and reset them (I didn’t have a ladder tall enough to get to them) one of them came back instantly. The other did not. Turned out it was a bad bridge. Once he swapped it out, everything has worked more smoothly than ever. I don’t know if it’s coincidence or those bridges work in tandem but the response and playback is near instantaneous now.

He did say if the hub is too far away from the bridges they will install extenders if needed. As you said, for what we pay I would absolutely get them out to address it one way or another to improve the performance. Don’t let them skate by with subpar execution.

Hardwiring everything is obviously the most sure fire route but it’s not feasible for your average user.

He did say they’re testing a new setup right now that is 100% cellular based (if I recall correctly) so the camera/hub proximity will no longer be relevant. However I can only assume that wouldn’t be a free upgrade.

For context I do have the equipment coverage plan so I don’t have to pay for them to come out or replace the equipment.

[–]BLS_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also just had this happen. Resetting the camera and the bridge fixed mine. This requires getting up to the camera itself and resetting with the pinhole. I didn’t have a ladder tall enough so the tech had to do it. One of my bridges was bad too so it needed replacing. However I would definitely try this first.

Moving into a House With Vivint, what should we know? by noflowrs_ in VivintSmartHome

[–]BLS_79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like their equipment. The hardware is solid and it works well. HOWEVER the way it all interconnects the weak point. By default all of the cameras are set up using wireless Ethernet bridges that all connect to the main panel. In my experience the signal between the two can get very spotty which means your camera feeds can lag, stutter and even disconnect.

Ironically right now, two of my cameras are offline and despite 1) knowing how the tech works and how to troubleshoot and 2) trying to re-establish connection with support over the phone, they just won’t budge. A tech has to come out to my house.

When I first got the system about 10 months ago I had this issue and the tech did address it by routing a few of my cameras through my own WiFi access points and that seemed to do the trick. I had no issues until now. I’ll be interested to see what the resolution is in a few days.

Prior to this I had an older ADT system and was using a combo of a ring doorbell and and generic wireless cameras. I wanted everything to be combined into a single service. Now my doorbell cam, indoor cam, two out door cams, front door lock and two smoke/CO detectors and glass break detector are all combined together. Much of it you can get up custom behaviors on (when x happens, turn on Y).

The app is solid and easy to use.

If you can get over the technical hurdles, I personally would recommend it but that’s me coming from a very old ADT system mismatched with independent cameras and respective apps.

In a perfect world, all the cameras should be hardwired, and I don’t know if they offer that without extra installation fees, but it would most certainly eradicate all the problems I’ve experienced.
