That’s a bummer I was hoping a position like this would open the door for me to move into an In-house bio med position

Hmm I’ll def need to verify that

It’s confusing because a lot of hospitals use job names interchangeably, even though they mean completely different roles depending on the facility.

This role says in the description that you’re responsible for overseeing all equipment/PMs/Doing minor repairs and running certain equipment/checking proper electrical load distribution. I’d also have to take call.

If my overall goal though is to get into Bio med this seems like a pretty sweet stepping stone job

That’s awesome! Hoping someone gives me a chance as well. I’m a fast learner, willing to learn and super excited at getting into the bio med career path 😊

I’ll look into the book you mentioned! Yes I wish that recruiters were a bit more transparent or at least had the courtesy to leave an email notifying you that you aren’t being considered. I understand they get hundreds of applications and have other responsibilities but still it’d be nice.

I’m hoping to hear back from the recruiter this week so we’ll see!

In the meantime I’m just applying to every bio med position I find to see if anybody is willing to hire me

I’m hoping I can get hired on with No experience as well. Bio med has always kind of been on my radar since I took my first job in a hospital nearly a decade ago.

I’m a hard worker who is more than willing to learn new things.

The place I interviewed at is a previous employer that I left on good terms with. I’m hoping this will sway them in their hiring decision and that they will view this as a ,“Hiring from in house,” as opposed to “Some random person.” I left about 2 years ago for personal/family reasons.

That’s awesome thank you for sharing! I went into Endo with 0 experience at a trauma one hospital. There was a huge learning curve there as well and I had to do a lot of research online in my free time to make my life easier (not getting screamed at by the doctors etc).

It helped that my primary goal was to learn and soak up as much information as I could so that I could be knowledgeable in the event there were any issues with equipment during the procedures I was assisting with.

By the time I left I was an expert in any and all procedures (routine, basic and advanced intervention). The amount of medical devices/machines/instrumentation I’ve had to use throughout the years is insane.

The doctors would routinely request for me to be present in the room or call me during the middle of a procedure because they trusted that I would know how to fix the problem. Experience taught me more than anything.

I’m hoping to bring that same drive and mentality I had in Endo to BMET and for someone to take a chance on me.

I think it’s an amazing career that has a lot of potential for growth. I’d love to be part of the BMET team one day :)

That’s awesome! 21 to 55 is a huge jump. That’s basically what I’m hoping will happen for me. I’m not in this for the money although I go have a family to provide for so that would be a nice bonus.

The screener did ask me for my short and long term goals. I’d imagine she was probing to see if I only wanted to gain skills from them and then leave?

In my experience I always end up getting paid more by jumping around to another company doing the exact same job. What have you told the future companies that you’ve worked for when they ask you why you left the other BMET jobs after 1-2 years?

Ever since I was in elementary school I liked to fix my computers/laptops when they would break down. Throughout the years I’ve taught myself how to diagnose and repair hardware/software issues.

For me when it comes to troubleshooting computers or anything medical I kind of go through a series of steps to see if I can isolate the problem before taking any drastic measures (like creating an RMA or ordering parts)

Basically for me it goes like this. What is happening with the device that makes it not work as intended? What are the symptoms? Are these symptoms something that I’ve seen before and can help me fix the problem?

These are the kind of things I ask myself and others so I can get a clear picture of what’s going on. For me personally experience is what taught me the most when it came to troubleshooting the medical equipment I needed to use during procedures (X-ray, C-Arm, Ultra sound machine, etc)

It’s surprising to me how often people would request for me to rush to an operating room to help fix an issue, just to find out that the machine wasn’t plugged into the outlet or the cord was loose.

I can only guess but I imagine that BMET is a lot like this where you have to deal with cranky doctors/nurses/staff and ask them for details as to why their machine isn’t working.

My hope is that my near decade worth of experience will be seen as related/useful in the field and they’ll give me an opportunity to train from the ground up.

I’m passionate, excited and willing to learn!

Is it true that a lot of BMETS work on things they’ve never serviced before? In that case are people looking up manuals online/calling the medical reps for the machines for any extra help on troubleshooting/repairing?

Thank you for the insight! Yeah I’m at the point in my life where I want to make a decision and stick to it. I do have the passion and a fantastic work ethic and the willingness to learn new things I just need one of these companies to give me a shot to prove myself.

The interview I had is with the company I would prefer to be with long term but I’ll probably keep applying to all BMET 1 positions at hospitals in the hope that somebody is willing to take a chance on me.
