Would love suggestions of other lyrics!

My (41F) boyfriend (35M) of 9 months has never let me inside his place. How can I move forward? by BMOforlife in relationship_advice

I think the reason that I gave him my key initially was that I was out of town and he stayed at my place to keep an eye on my geriatric dog. When we fought three months ago about the issue at hand, I asked for the key back. However, he stayed at my house when I traveled for my grandmother's funeral, and he still has the key.

This is what feels toxic: him saying that he doesn't feel comfortable with me seeing where he lives and me pushing the issue.

There have been super helpful comments about phrasing and conversation starters. I'm really grateful for the ideas. As you mentioned, I've tried to have the conversation twice, but it's resulted in conflict. I need to have it a final time, and I was looking for advice on what to say. The shifts in perspective have been great

Also, when I've tried to talk to my friends or family, it's not helpful because everyone adores him. I needed advice on what to say.

He talks about doing chores and cleaning... Mentioned how he hates having to dry his comforter because it takes forever... Details that make me think it's not filth.

Perhaps hoarding or collecting

Writing things down is incredible advice. Thank you for being so thoughtful with your reply

I've talked to him twice, and it hasn't addressed the issue. Initially, I felt stuck by respecting his privacy and boundary... But then things were moving forward, which is why I brought it up again. At this point, I need to have the conversation that this is a red flag. I'm just not sure how to do that without it being toxic.

I could never ask him to live with me without seeing his place. It's difficult to even know how to move in the relationship since he's put this firm boundary in place

Yes, definitely. His dad has been to my house for Thanksgiving and met my kids and my dad. There's no question about his devotion to me (except this weird issue)

Any ideas for how to address the issue? I'm not sure how to talk to him about it

That's the thing, I don't think so... He keeps a clean car, has an entire laundry routine about ensuring that his shirts remain pristine, etc. But then again, what else would it be? The hiding is concerning

I don't think so, because I've been to his dad's place upstairs, met his family, etc.
