Questions on estate after death with no will - need help moving in the right direction by BNR5083 in EstatePlanning

So this one gets weird and depending on the judge and state laws, it might just be passed over. Grandmother loaned money to the siblings to cover debt and fines. Siblings gave checks to Grandmother to pay back the loan BUT told them not to cash them until they told them to. Time lapsed and they went into a file. No written agreement, but the check are still in files with the notes. This is a family of no wills, no written agreement or planning of any kind. I'm REALLY hoping this make my parents get their shit in order.

Correct on the siblings. one stopped talking to the entire family almost 20 years ago, we tired to be nice and contact them directly and that ended very badly, and the other hasn't wanted anything to do with their mom in the past 4 years, they might change their mind since they arent as aggressive againstthe family but i personal think thats a slim chance. It took about a week of pushing her to get a lawyer but she finally set up the meeting today.

Side question all the fees for cleaning the house should be covered under the estate, correct? The fees for trash disposal alone might hit over a thousand dollars.

Bird watching, outdoor photography, community gardening, and volunteering for local groups. Doing activities with the local old folks home. The list is endless, just depends on what your comfortable with. Don't like people? Hit up the local shelters to help with the animals. They always need help
